I love fudge. Thus, although I've only been here twice (and the first of these times was so longer ago I barely even remember it), I love Sweet William's. I also have little to go on, as the recent time I did head here was in a desperate need for a sugary boost, and I probably wasn't the most discerning of customers! That said, my super sweet coconut ice was gooey and delicious. The price was reasonable too. And they had dozens of fudge types on offer, though I think you can't really beat cornish cream, Ooo though I do like a bit of rum and raisin...
Some of the fudge looked fresher than the rest - they didn't seem very busy, and I guess they only are during tourist season/Saturdays, so maybe it dries out a bit. The other weird thing was the totally out of place shopkeeper - okay perhaps physically (if we're being very judgemental and generalising here) he resembled a jolly cornish fudge seller, but his utter lack of banter and mildly disdainful expression made the whole experience a bit hysterical!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Jessica W.Burnaby, Canada837340127 Dec 2009
Mmm. There's nothing like the smell of fudge. My goodness. Unique and mouth-watering trays are lined up in the windows and when I opened the door, the smell was equally tantalising. Behind the counter, there were minty, fruity and nutty concoctions of fudge, although the shopkeeper said his best seller is the toffee crumble. Done and done.
Sweet Williams also has pick and mix sweets at 90p per 100grams, and some pre-packaged candies and fudges. A small freezer keeps a few selections of ice creams and frozen snacks as well, although buying anything other than the source of the delicious smell would just be silliness.
Service is very friendly, and if you're having trouble deciding, the shopkeeper can put together a small sample of your top picks for you. I definitely recommend checking it out if you haven't indulged enough over the holidays.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Alice C.Brighton731935928 Jan 2010
I can spend a lot of time staring through the windows of this place, wondering if I can really justify buying fudge when I've just had lunch.......
The window display is full of trays of freshly made fudge - looking reassuringly imperfect in their homemadeness, but also perfectly enticing. There's always a range of flavours available (I like the chocolately ones), and they seem to have just the right balance sorted between crumbliness and stickiness.
They do also sell other sweets, but to be honest I've never got past the fudge.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Sarah-Jane B.Brighton2801096336019 Mar 2010

Whatever flavour you like your fudge, there's a chance they'll sell it in Sweet Williams. An old fashioned sweet shop in the Lanes, Sweet Williams seems aimed primarily at tourists who are lured in by the gleaming silver trays lined with sugary goodness. In the spring and summer, there's often queues out of the door. In the cold and rainy winter however, it's significantly quieter with the staff daydreaming in-between making new batches.
If you're a fan of the soft, gooey stuff, give it a try. Personally, I'm more of a chocolate and bon bons gal.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - 23128 Dec 2014
I spend far too much of my time in Brighton buying and eating fudge. This little shop epitomises Brighton to me, and I have many childhood memories going in here and choosing delicious flavours.
Great location, reasonable prices, friendly staff, sells fudge = awesome.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Kendall M.London3712710529 Jul 2014
I tried the cookies and cream fudge the other day and found it to be quite lovely -- lighter than I was expecting, and the fudge part really did taste like the filling of an Oreo cookie. I enjoyed it, and it was good, but I'd try another fudge shop the next time for a few reasons.
I didn't really know how much I was purchasing (I think the blocks are pre-cut into 100g each but maybe not...?) though because the amounts aren't labeled and I don't think I got a receipt which said anything about the weight either.
The shop can get quite warm in the summer such that the fudge was a bit mushy, and it's cash only which is always a bit of a pain.
The big annoyance is that the entrance/door is very small and narrow such that if you go in the store to look around and then decide you want to make a purchase... a line may have already formed out the door thereby trapping you in the store (it's nearly impossible to squeeze out past the line of people in the entrance corridor and the line may keep replenishing such that the line never gets short enough for you to get in it!).Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Richard W.Brighton110915617 Apr 2010
So you've been shopping hard, your calves are aching, your arms hanging like a monkey at your sides weighed down by purchases. Take a pit stop at Sweet Williams; true to its moniker it sells everything that will make your teeth fall out - but it's worth it. Chocolate galore, homemade fudge candy mice. Mmmm.
