Probably the worst meal we had while in England. We both had the Sunday roast meal- mine chicken and my sister had the beef. The beef was tough and the checking was just ok. The sides all thastwd the same.

Went there on holiday with family. Recommended this dinning experience as this is the best we've had in Tenby. Starters of fresh oysters, mussels and squid. Main courses of fresh fish and steak was prepared to perfection. Finished with sweets of cheese cake and creme brule. Service was excellent. Atmosphere was unique as we were seated in the old chimney. A unique, charming restaurant.

How many ways can I say YUM?

I first experienced the wonder that is the Plantaganet one Christmas, when the the pivotal three couples in our group of 'kids' munched a glorious meal here. It was amazing. Salmon that melted in the mouth, steaks as soft as butter... Incredible. As a result we've been back countless times since and booked the entire place out for last New Year's Day, something which shall doubtless be happening this year too.

If you can catch it in winter, do have some of the delicious mulled wine they serve at the bar. The bar itself is gorgeously decked out in wooden furnishings with lush little wicker cushioned seats and quirky features. The staff are super attentive and the proprietor is something of a character. But the real stars are the dishes themselves. This place does fantastic mussels (fish and shellfish are a bit of a speciality here), the meat is cooked to perfection and the sides they provide you with are insanely tasty. Oh and you must have the bread to pick at for the start of your meal, baked fresh and full of olives and sundried tomatoes. It's a rabbit warren of a place with winding stairs, and it's family friendly and harbours tons of charm and character. I can never wait to come back here whenever I leave Wales. Do try it!

One of the best things about this place is the owner showing you his giant chimney!
OK, let's rewind. The Plantaganet is a really cool, snug, wonderful bar and restaurant in the heart of Tenby. It's situated down a cobbled side street (next to the Lifeboat pub) and has hanging baskets, lamps and flowers galore outside, making it look very welcoming. The downstairs bar is filled with sofas and low slung tables and candles and lamps and has a real oppulent feel to it. The music they play is mellow and funky and you could easily sit sipping a glass of your favourite fancy, listening to the music and soaking up the ambience for hours on end.
The restaurant is upstairs and is, I gues, what you'd call high-end. It's certainly not cheap, but neither is it extortionate compared to some. Fish features highly on the menu, as you would expect from a Tenby restaurant. Lobster Thermidore (I hope that's how you spell it) is on offer, but you're looking at £35 ish. The restaurant itself is light with candles and lamps and has a cosy and intimate ambience.
Now, back to that giant chimney. The owner of The Plantagenet is a very friendly chap who likes nothing more than to stand outside, chatting to customers over a cigarette (this happens a lot more when it's sunny and nice, obviously). If he likes you, he takes you on a little guided tour of the restaurant and bar and shows you a giant old chimney breast running through the middle of the building. It's HUGE and very old and the guy LOVES it! He asks you to step right inside it and look up into its cavernous heights! I kid you not.
Now that's got to be worth a look, no?

Perhaps the best meal I've ever eaten. The choice of fresh fish is impressive and the customer service is great. I live in Swansea 60 miles away and would honestly travel that distance just to have a meal there. Worth the money it cost.

Went there today for coffee as I live locally. Will not be going back there again. Service was non-existent. The young chap serving had 7 customers and couldn't cope. When we eventually got our coffee it was served in a wine glass without an apology nor were we asked whether we minded scalding our hands on the glass or not. All the other customers looked on aghast. When we had finished our coffee my friend spoke to the guy and said how out of order it was and he stated that he didn't have any cups left and again offered no apology. And to make matters worse they didn't have any cake. I thought this was supposed to be a decent restaurant hope the evening service is better! Might I suggest they invest in more coffee cups or do some washing up. Had to give it one star as it doesn't let you leave none!!!

What a restaurant, well worth a visit. As noted in previous review it is very expensive however, you get what you pay for. Excellent food, excellent hospitality and the environment well go and take a look for yourself, you won't be disapointed.
