Bellman's Bar is fairly standard of the kind of pub you'd expect to find in it's location, although it's set apart from the rest by it's larger size and the availability of pool and darts.

I entered around lunchtime on a fairly muggy weekday morning in order to get a cup of coffee. Coffee in a pub? Well, the sign outside certainly said so. Yet when enquiring what was types were on offer, the barman looked at me blankly and simply stated: "erm, black and white?"...

Fair enough, I thought. There's too much pretentiousness present in coffee shops these days, too much of a move from simplicity. After ordering a white coffee, it came shortly after. I sat down in one of the numerous sofas present by the windows of the bar and looked at the food menu. The food on offer seemed quite good, all the usual pub grub favourites such as steak and ale pie and haddock and chips. I observed a couple of families that were sat to lunch, and their orders looked very appetising. The food pricing was fairly standard. However, my coffee left a lot to be desired. You can taste it had been made with whitener rather than milk, and I felt that it was quite a small cup for the £1.25 I had paid. To be honest, I felt the advert for teas and coffees outside was a bit unjustified.

The drinks prices, however, seemed a lot more reasonable, and I noticed that there was an offer on various pints including Tennent's and Belhaven Best for £2.40 from Monday through to Thursday. Overall, a fairly standard, old fashioned pub where what you see is what you get.
