Charming is the best word to describe Tea & Sympathy. It is a small, quaint tea house with a fantastic selection of teas and knowledgeable waitresses.

The shabby-chic, English-countryside decor is not usually my "cup of tea" [sorry, I couldn't resist] but it just fits here. It lends a coziness to the place that transports you to an English grandmother's house; portraits of the Queen and all. Also, I love the fact that all the china teapots and teacups are different. You don't know which one you will get and it gives a somewhat homey feel to the experience.

The Vietnamese French Vanilla tea was so flavourful with strong vanilla notes and a velvety creaminess. The waitress recommended it and she was spot on. The menu is fairly extensive so a trip back is surely warranted.

Extremely overpriced but quality of the food is good. Coffee costs more than a cup of the same size at Starbucks and is not any better. However, the almond croissant was pretty delicious; flaky, buttery, and fresh.

This location has a modern feel with steel and glass that is pleasant to enjoy a snack and cup of coffee in. Ample seating is also definitely a plus. I just don't think a normal, non-specialty cup of coffee should be over $2.

We went here for dinner in the middle of Winter Storm Nemo's wrath and the place was pretty full so that is somewhat of a testament to the quality of the food.

Prices for the portion sizes seem more Manhattan than Queens but the meal was enjoyable nonetheless.

Everyone has already mentioned it but I can't resist repeating: The popcorn cooked in bacon grease is unbelievably fantastic. It will change the way you think about popcorn. I am not a big popcorn fan, generally reserving my intake to movie theaters, but we actually asked for more of it at Salt & Fat.

The oxtail terrine was another winner. Flavourful and tender, with just a very slight sweetness from the onions.

Scallops with truffled corn and capers were perfectly cooked with just the right amount of "bite" that one would expect from a scallop. Would be nice if there were 4 to a serving instead of 3 but I am just greedy.

The fried chicken was not bad but didn't wow me. The herb ranch sauce and pickled daikon were delicious but I would skip it next time; you can get fried chicken just about anywhere; try something more unique at S&F.

Speaking of unique, jalapeno ice cream was interesting. Spicy ice cream is not something you would normally think of but it wasn't so bad actually. The apple miso sorbet was fantastic and the Thai iced tea ice cream was as close to the real thing you will get without actually drinking the real thing.

All in all, a nice little place, with super friendly service, within close proximity to the dreaded 7 train.

One of the best places for a night out with friends that I have come across in a while.
Colorful silk drapes, lush pillows, and belly dancers evoke a Sheik's gilded boudoir (or the inside of Jeannie's bottle...whichever you prefer). The food is nothing short of fantastic and service was top notch.

The phyllo-wrapped Chicken Bstila melted in your mouth and the mint-yogurt dipping sauce provided a somewhat cool finish.

Anyone who knows me knows I love lamb. The braised lamb shank in the Couscous Royal was tender as could be. The couscous was flavoured perfectly with various root vegetables. The only problem you will have with this dish is finishing the massive portion.

The Rose of Taza cocktail was art in a glass. Perfectly mixed, the distinctive flavour of the Hendricks gin was noticeable amidst the St Germain and rose water.

But wait, there's more! Hookah in the lower level!
Right up there with my love for lamb is my love for smoking...especially smoking indoors with friends in a social setting. The double apple flavour was outstanding...almost like smoking a glass of cider. Also, the belly dancers even make their rounds in the hookah lounge so your Mid-East fantasy never has to end...at least until last call.

Not perfect but certainly good for a last-minute meal.
It is much more commercialized than most gyro places I am used to. That is, it feels like a chain restaurant and not like the mom & pop gyro places I go to in MA.

However, the ingredients were fresh and it was nice that they built each gyro to order, with only the toppings the customer wanted...sort of like a gyro assembly line, in the style of Chipotle. Food was satisfying and tasted "authentic" enough IMO.

Service was extremely friendly and the atmosphere is very cool with a somewhat industrial chic aesthetic. Another plus is it's Wicker Park location...one of the most charming Chicago neighborhoods with loads of cool shops nearby.
