come here for the cinnamon rolls. I don't care if you hate cinnamon rolls, still go as trying them is like a rite of passage. These aren't any ordinary generic cinnamon rolls--they're almost like cinnamon croissants and are extremely delicious/buttery. Their espressos are delicious as well. Only reason that I'm giving NB 4 stars was that their toilet was clogged and the horrendous smell wafting out of the tiny restroom almost made me regurgitate my just-eaten roll.

my god...THE BREAD--it's absolutely delicious here. The brioche bap is one of my favourites (the eggs are fried to perfection). Come here for the affordable breakfast and lunch options.

As a vegetarian, I cannot review the BBQ, which seems good judging by at other reviews, but I WOULD NOT go to this restaurant at all costs if you want to eat something other than meat.

Being korean and a regular customer at great Korean restaurants in the NYC and DMV area, I had high expectations for Arang-- and it even seemed that many Koreans were in the restaurant, a usual sign for authentic food.

However, I was thoroughly disappointed on all counts:

ATMOSPHERE: Upon entering the restaurant, we were told that there were no more seats on the ground floor and we would have to be seated in the basement--which seemed fine. However, the basement seemed like a very dodgy club with dirty, sagging red couches and a "private" sign affixed to the door. I felt like I was in a strip club dressed up as a restaurant.

FOOD: Mediocre at best. The boricha we received on arrival was lukewarm and of a cheap grade; the cups were greasy and smelled of oil. Tap water was also served in a beer shot glass-- a super pet peeve of mine. The side dishes were bland and unappealing--kimchi, bean sprouts, and potato mayonnaise salad. The haemul pajun was a soggy, bland, oily mess with cheap imitation crab counting as the "haemul" or seafood; it looked like it had just been reheated and served. The haemul bibimbap was appalling; instead of vegetables and seafood with gochujang on the side it was random segments of unidentifiable seafood smothered in cheap artificial gochujang with just rice. Everything was past its expiration date and just plain bland.

PRICE: Expensive and unreasonable prices for the small portions. About 9 quid for a small bowl of rice and low-grade seafood?!? are you insane??? And the whole "rent" excuse is just not acceptable-- I have dined at asian restaurants near the Piccadilly area which are far more affordable and ten times better than this restaurant.

SERVICE: Our waiter could not speak English. We had to ask twice for the boricha and the bill. The place was understaffed and the service was incredibly slow. When we asked the manager if we could get a table upstairs, he told us that we could leave. We should have taken his advice.

Needless to say, I would not recommend Arang to anyone. A truly good restaurant should prepare all its menu items with equal quality and attention--Arang has failed at this.

If you're searching for the DMV's hipster-mecca..look no further than Northside Social.
Not only do they brew counter-culture coffee, but they serve loose-leaf tea because I guess tea bags violate the tea leaves' human rights or integrity, or something.

The wifi's pretty good and you can find seating--if you manage to navigate past the endless sea of messenger bags and corduroy jackets.

Ordered the vegetarian burger--it was very good, everything tasted fresh. The fries that came with it weren't anything special-plain cut generic McDonald's fries. Would have rather enjoyed a side salad but oh well I can't refuse slices of potato-y trans-fatness.

The only reason I'm giving Smorgas 3 stars was the bad service. There was only one person taking down orders in the whole restaurant. I understand that our party has three people instead of just two or one, but we arrived before them-taking down two other patrons'' orders and delivering their food, even before giving us water, is just unacceptable.
