Like other Yo Sushis, this one is overpriced and thoroughly mediocre. Ramen soup with bland, nearly cold broth at £8. Unfortunately, the franchise seems to have cornered the market at many public spaces like the airports.
The food is so utterly bad, I don't even know where to begin....
So I'm at Gatwick airport waiting for my flight and as per usual decided to fill my belly before boarding so I don't have to put up with the in-flight meals (y'all know what I'm talking about!). I park my tush on the seat and pick out my usual fare: tuna and salmon sashimi, a few rolls, and some noodles as a filler. It. Was. Terrible.
The seaweed that wraps around the rolls were soggy, the fish was dry, and everything just looked like it had been sitting there for days. Now, if you're familiar with Japanese culture and cuisine, you will know that everything is executed with pride and perfection. OK, so we're in London and not Japan, and in some cases this is excusable, but... soggy seaweed is NOT excusable!!! How is it even possible?!
It was so unpalatable, I simply couldn't muster the nerve to finish my meal so went to pay the £30 for a meal that I had only nibbled on. The manager asked "was everything ok?", and I just had an irresistible urge to enlighten him on exactly how bad the food was. It went like this:
Me: "Do you eat Japanese food often?"
Me: "Really? How often?"
Manager: "Every day"
Manager: "Here - Yo Sushi"
Me: "Have you eaten Japanese food anywhere else?"
Me: "You're joking? You have only ever eaten Japanese food here in Yo Sushi?"
Manager: "Yes, it's true"
Need I say more?
Having raved about and defended Yo so many times this makes me sad but so blatantly bad was this it just has to be said.
First up I went for t favourite katsu chicken! It was soggy, chewy and well disgusting! Fail!!
Next up veg gyoza....so overcooked the dumpling was inedible along the crimp where it has gone solid. Manager said they use a steamer only so fail to see how they managed this! Strongly suspect they used a microwave.
At this point I told the waitress my feelings and she just yeah it's always this bad!!! Wow!!!
So in summary avoid!!!
