Whitakers Department Store is housed within a very attractive building with pretty architecture which gives it character and charm and is centrally located with doors on both sides making it even more accessible from two streets.
Once inside it's always warm (sometimes a little too much so) but it's layout is a bit confused and non intuitive which often makes me feel cramped, claustrophobic and a little bemused. it also has steps inside which is certainly not ideal if you have a pushchair or wheelchair.
There's various concessions inside such as warehouse to name but one of them.
It's quite dated inside and could do with a cleaner, brighter more modern look in places.
The staff are all quite pleasant but i always feel this department store is lacking something be it atmosphere or just that little panache, i can't pin point it.
Worth a look inside but likewise it's no big heartbreak if you miss it out.
