Came again for lunch and had steak sandwich, side salad and the most amazing home made chips. I am not a great fan of horse radish but this was very good.
The size of the meal was awesome and as for quality; amazing. You will be disappointed if you want a bargain meal but you get what you pay for.
Staff very friendly and efficient making a lovely afternoon out with the family extremely pleasant.

I cannot recommend this pub highly enough. I went with my girlfriend to Rutland Water one weekend for a few hours walking. This was still when it was pretty breezy in March of this year. After walking half the route distance and back again we were famished and swiftly looked for somewhere to sit and have a hearty meal. We had been in the on-site cafe (which was excellent by the way, although very pricey) and had considered waiting until we got home for something to eat but I am glad we didn`t as we stopped at the Wheatsheaf pub just up the road from Rutland Water. On the country road past the RAF base, in fact opposite the base sits this delight of a pub. I have to say my first reactions were that I didn`t like the look of it, as we had a pub in our village called the Wheatsheaf...not a good enough reason to dislike it really and it proved just how wrong you can be to go on looks alone. It`s a relatively small pub but as we walked in we planted ourselves near the fire. Having been in pubs before to eat I knew the chances were it would be fairly cheap food but at the same time, also not really quality tasting food. Again I was wrong. The prices were fairly standard for a restaurant actually and yet the portions were huge! We had a starter between us and we really didn`t need it as the main courses were very large. It was a lovely meal, great food and wonderful portions and extremely good value for money. Without doubt, the best pub meal I have ever had and cooked to restaurant standards to boot. So go and wear yourself out walking around the countryside and then go and enjoy a warming meal here.
