Great products and fantastic customer service here at Wensleydale. We happened upon this cheese one day while grocery shopping near our home in upstate New York. I'll admit that we initially tried it because of the picture of Wallace and Gromit on the package. How could we resist? But we came back for more because it's some damn tasty cheese. We like to eat it with slices of green apple - yum!
But sadly, our local grocer stopped carrying it, so we searched high and low for another merchant who offered this delicious cheese. Unfortunately, it was nowhere to be found.
So, as a gift I ordered the Husband a bunch of his favorite Wensleydale direct from the source via their website. It took nearly three weeks to arrive, but it was worth every penny. After 10 days passed (their estimated delivery time to the US) I contacted Wensleydale because the cheese hadn't arrived yet, and they offered to send the order again. I told them to hold off, hoping the first shipment was just a little delayed. It arrived about a week later, and we've been in cheesy heaven ever since!
Unfortunately we had only time to take a short look at the shop. It contains a usual tourist presents: sheepish sourvenirs, shortbread, tea etc. But the real thing is in the little cold room on the left side. There they present their cheese variations. Little pieces to try and forget every praise of french cheese!
Marvelous, fruity sorts and very tasty. Sadly very few opportuneties to get this cheese here on the continent.
While on a road trip, we randomly decided to stop in Hawes for the night and were surprised to see the great number of adverts featuring Wallace and Gromit. The next morning at breakfast, our host informed us of the Wensleydale Cheese place just up the road. Well, we had to try that! And what great fun! The best part of the tour is the sample room. The smoked Cheddar was out of this world amazing. And what a beautiful setting, too, right in the Dales. Great stop on our road trip!
Free wi-fi and ample tastes of their cheeses! Touristy with busses but worth the stop in.
