7 reviews for Walkabout Inn

Two stars? Honestly, you know what you are in for when you walk into the Walkabout; if you want a nice evening, go eat at the Savoy. This place is a solid 3, if you go in with the right, low expectations. It's cheap, crass, and crawling with Aussies and Kiwis. However, they do karaoke with a live band every once and again, which is an absolute blast.
Admittedly, it does wreak of vomit when you leave, and I would never wear open-toed shoes here without expecting to contract a staff infection.
My advice for having a great, worry-free time here is all too obvious:
- Drink before hand.
- Have no intentions of meeting anyone interesting.
- Go with a large group.
- Anticipate making poor decisions.
- Bring cash.
- Don't bring a coat.
- Wear a latex body suit.
Also, if I remember correctly, Wednesdays are student, pound-drink nights or some such...
Just.... no. Not. at. all.
It's just.... just... no. Never. Ever. Again.
I'm not 18 anymore and I'm not antipedean. I don't want to look like an idiot and drink as much as possible as cheap as possible, kiss a random whose name I care not a jot about and then throw up.
If that makes me sad or old then I'm fine with that. I'll stick to places where I can have a quiet drink and a friendly chat with friends. Or better still, enjoy the sun (in the common JUST over the road) on the nicest day of the year.

Yikesss !!!! I went here last night before I rolled into Pearl Jam's concert. Not too impressed.
I would say go to The Defector's Weld right on the other side of Shepards Bush Green. Much more fun and nicer.
If you've read my review about The Church you'll already have an idea of what this place is like. The Walkabout, Shepherds Bush is an Aussie, Kiwi drinkathon heaven. Imagine drunken girls and boys consuming huge amounts of alcohol and cavorting with each other as often as possible. It gets busy and messy and I advice not wearing your best shoes, especially on a Sunday.
There is a weekly School days theme night and they often run fun competitions that take place on the stage.
It is one of the few places in London that will openly sell you Snake Bite and Black. If you are lucky you can buy pitchers of the stuff. If you get a pitcher, keep hold of it as they have a limited amount of them.
If you want a quiet, romantic chat do not go. If you want to have a mad party, the Walkabout Shepherds Bush is the place to be.

Possibly one of the cheesiest bars I have ever been to. If you want a cheap experience of what is stereotypically perceived as 'down under culture' then feel free to give it a try.
It seems that the aim of the game here is to 'down' as many snake bites as you can and get a bit rowdy. Its messy.
I'm just not sure why anyone would choose to go to a chain of pubs that embarrassingly claims to be authentic. I would suggest going to a nice little English pub if you want an authentic experience.
The only good thing about it is the 'Tooheys New', a delicious Australian beer.
I went to Walkabout with my Aussie roommate for her friend's birthday on a Sunday afternoon. Apparently there's some special Sunday tradition that ends up at this Walkabout, so perhaps my experience was unique, but perhaps not.
There was a band playing, so I'm told, Aussie hits. They were no great shakes, but not terrible. The crowd was swarming and drunk. Some revelers were dressed up in silly costumes - clown, tennis player - which was joyous. What was not so joyous was how messy it all way. Near everyone was pissed as one of those public urinals around down and there was beer flying everywhere like it had developed wing. Beer on table, beer on floor. The floor was so sticky that you could have glued a kangaroo to it without any ulterior aids. I almost walked about Walkabout without shoes because they were damn near beered to the floor.
I'd recommend going to this place if you're blaring drunk. If not, maybe somewhere else might be a better starter.
Wow.. I can't help but smile remembering The Shea-Boo Walkie ;-)
I had the unique experience of living around the corner from this lil gem - any morning any day of the week is a Jackson Pollock masterpiece of puke stains all over the sidewalk leading from the bar to the various bus stops.
It is a destination for debauch and going out on the pull for some "root" (ew- a truly gross aussie slang word for an already shady activity). I recently visited Sydney and Melbourne and I didn't see snake-bites on any bar list. I reckon you can only get them in London at this aussie chain of all things nonsense.
