If you always avoided Waitrose because you thought it was overpriced, it's probably worth another visit.
The quality of produce (especially fresh meat) remains second to none but the prices seem to have dropped considerably. Although still prohibitively pricey for many people, the service, quality, range and ethical value of Waitrose still makes it number one on my list.
The employees are always extremely polite and happy to help which us more than I can say for the staff at nearby Sainsbury's.
The store's recent refit has given it a café/deli feel at the front entrance which is nice. The bakery also seems to have expanded it's range of fresh bread.
Waitrose is the best supermarket in Surbiton. It is housed in a relatively new building, with one side completely covered in glass, so there is plenty of natural light within the store. This branch of Waitrose supermarket is probably not the largest one, but it stocks everything an average shopper could want.
Waitrose are not known for cheap prices and special deals. In fact, they are distinctly at the upper end of the supermarket pyramid.
If you are looking for excellent quality food, there really is no other choice - Waitrose win every time.
Every item on sale is in prime condition, most noticeably fresh fruit and vegetables. The same applies to fresh meat, fish as well as processed foods.
The fishmonger is one of the best I have seen in any supermarket. The choice of fish on offer here will be a wonderful surprise to anyone used to the standard supermarket fare.
Waitrose are also known for their bakery, importing some of the breads directly from Poliane bakery in France. I recommend their sourdough bread.
There is a fantastic selection of imported foods such as dairy products, cheeses, wine, chocolates and confectionery.
You'll find a lot of ideas for Christmas presents here.
This store is highly recommended for discerning shoppers who put quality above the price.
Rating from the bakery and delicatessen range only: the items are overpriced and not as good quality as proper deli and breadshop in Surbiton such as Chez Julien Deli - it puzzles me that with supermarket buying power they don't deliver nearly as close good quality/price ratio as small independant shops
