A really modern place to do all your fitness requirements. It is kitted out with the latest and best gear, and it is well maintained.
there are a wide variety of different classes to choose from if that is what you are after, and there is a lot of flexiblity in terms of recognising your needs and abilities.
The pool is a great facility and an advantage over other gyms that don't have the space to offer a pool.
Another good feature is the cafe, and also the free internet access you can get. Also there is convenient parking which always helps and the staff are pleasant and well mannered too.
This is one of the better gyms (or 'health clubs') in Birmingham, with all the facilities needed and a great location just away from town. One major advantage of its location on the Broadway Plaza Complex has to be the multi-storey car park beneath the gym, which is free of chardge for gym users (hand ticket at the desk for swiping) for 3 hours i think...never any parking issues!
As well as the huge range of equipment that you'd expect, great extra facilities include:
Aerobics Studio, Boxing Ring, Cafe/Snack bar, Climbing Wall, Core stability zone, Crèche, free internet, Kettlebells, Pool (20m), Sauna, Spa, Steam room, Studio classes, Sunbed.
What more can you ask for eh? The staff are friendly and helpful, and the gym attracts business-people maninly, so theres a great atmosphere. It really is a nic eplace to enjoy your workout.
Mon. - Fri. 6.30am - 10pm; Sat. & Sun. 8am - 8pm
This is a huge, well-equipped and tidy gym with extensive facilities including a pool, sauna and suites where they hold weekly fitness courses.
It's a little more expensive than most gyms in town, primarily because the monthly fee covers unlimited access to the gym and pool, as well as free broadband internet access and any classes you may be interested in taking. The classes on offer are typically hybrid fitness courses such as tai bo, 'body attack' and 'hulaerobics', although they offer more traditional courses such as yoga as well.
There are dozens of machines, as well as free weights, a boxing ring and a climbing wall. Depending on what time of day you go, it can be quite busy, but there are enough machines that you seldom have to wait for the one you need.
Whenever I went here, it was clean and well-maintained, the staff were always very friendly and helpful, happy to offer advice on the best machines and techniques to use in order to get the desired effect. With Virgin Active, you get what you pay for... assuming you go!
The best gym in Birmingham City Centre in my opinion. Large, generally clean, wide range of facilities. friendly staff, exciting classes. Nice pool/sauna facilities.
Can be extremely busy after work - best to come after 7pm or after 8am in my opinion.
Also, the gym membership entitles you to 'concession rate' tickets at AMC Cinema next door, which is an added bonus!
I do WISH they had later opening hours (10pm weekends and 11pm weekdays?) as I cant seem to find enough time in the day to fit in the gym as often as I would like- but that may be my problem, not Virgins!;o)
This gym is great i went there recently for just a month and they offered exactly what they said. I was slightly anxious about joining gyms that tied you into a contract and was reluctant in giving my bank details but they assured me that no money would be taken out in a subsequent month if you cancelled the proper way which was to send an email on a specified date of that month or i could simply just come into the gym and have it cancelled via a discussion. I done it via the email method and to my delight no more money was taken.
I had used the qype virgin £50 voucher to join up and was not satisfied by the fact that they knew not whether it would be acceptable when it clearly said on it that i could use it for that purpose. A word with the general manager confirmed that i could use it there. But even after having that confirmed, they were unsure as to how i was to be able to use the remaining of the voucher fund as they couldnt give me change using the voucher. They suggested i went for the following month as well but i set at the outset that i only want to join for a month and so they gave me a rucksack instead to cover the costs.
Joined about 3 months ago and I'm impressed so far. They do all sorts of classes so i'm able to rotate them quite frequently. Sometimes the classes can get full a couple of weeks in advance so you have to get in there early and book your spot. The gym has everything you would expect from a high class gym. prices are reasonable.
After moving into Birmingham City centre, I needed a new gym but was very worried that it would be one of those awful intimidating places with nothing but skinny girls and muscly men - those places just make me want to turn around and walk out again. To my delight, I found that Virgin Active was not like that at all - yes, those kinds of people were there, but so were a whole load of other people who were all different shapes and sizes - a gym for 'normal' people - hurray! The staff at the gym were friendly and knowledgable about their equipment and about fitness, and helped me to work out a plan that is working for me.
They've got lots of up-to-date fitness equipment, along with a lovely swimming pool and some studios for classes, which were all included in the membership. I pay £45 per month, which I really didnt think was too bad for a city centre gym (cheaper than my last gym, anyway!).
