I stayed in Birmingham for 2days, I ate a pie a day:P
It was not only good but also nutrious instead of meals
especially breakfast and lunch when i was busy.
If I go there next time, I want to try another taste's pie with beer:))
Urban Pie is fantastic - The quality is very good, the only gripe I have is sometimes the pastry is to sickley.
Theres various fillings from Wild Mushroom & Asparagus to Lamb & Rosemary plus many more, sometimes they are sold out due to how busy it gets.
On a side you can have homemade mash, peas or gravy.
They also serve seasonal pies, and soft drinks and beers All pies are avaliable to take home if you wish, dont forget after 5pm pies are half price.
Seating is inside or out.
I crawled into the place with a stinking hangover and in dire need of carbs. I loved it!
The wee pies are all piping hot and really tasty. i believe this is owned by the same person as the one in Brindley Place - this one is far superior as the service is faster, the decor is nicer and it's right in the middle of the bull ring, stagger there as soon as you can!
I've never considered the pie to be fast food. Lucky for the people of Birmingham, Urban Pie do.
Excellent, hearty pies with a rang of fillings served fast, with a whole bunch of sides. mash, mushy peas etc. All hot, all really nice.
Food is served on recyclable cardboard plates, so you don't have to feel bad about staff chained to a sink scrubbing dishes, or the environment. Which is lovely.
To get the full range of pies and sides, you need to get there early if you want to sample everything from the menu. The last of certain items can be a turn off for some people I guess, but it does mean you might try (and like) some things you didn't think you did.
Beer and cider is on the menu, so it has it's advantages over other places. Hooray for alcohol!
The location is great - right next to the Bullring, so you can take a break from shopping to people-watch from a great big window.
You'll probably need to like pies to like Urban Pie - but if you didn't, why would you go there?
I love the name of this place. Urban Pie. What does it mean? Is it a pie made in the city or a pie to eat in the city? People have been mulling this important question for centuries. And now the conundrum has been powerfully brought to life. Sweeney Todd eat your heart out! It sounds like it's something to do with the streets. Made on the streets for the people who live on the streets. Like it's funky and grungy and downright of the city. It's not. This place is so upmarket it should be called Gourmet Pie Kitchen.
The pies are amazing. Perfectly formed and filled with delicious varieties of fillings and rich crispy pastry. They aren't giving them away, but it is a step up from West Cornwall Pasty Co. Just. And if nothing else, us country bumpkins do get that big city experience.
I love Urban Pie!
Theres so many tasty piesif I started listing them I think my taste bubs would go crazy and I'd have to go eat pie today! I usually settle for a good old angus beef and ale pie but theres loads - like chicken & asparagus, winter vegetable, roast dinner (with stuffing ontop instead of pastry!).... oooh what am I doing to myself.I want pie!!!
After 5pm all pies are half price. Selected beers are half price too. The extras stay the same price but the mash potatoe is well worth the money and they are very generous with the portions. Gravy is free. The way they serve it is handy toothey serve it all in a box, then if your eating out or eating in once your sat down and readyto tuck in just fold the sides down and its a perfect make shift plate! Sounds good huh?
All the tables and benches are wooden and theres a kind of german feel to the place. Its nice.
A top little food place that offers tasty traditional food at a reasonable rate. At the moment you can find vouchers online at their webstie for BOGOF deals, meaning even greater value!
There is always a good seletion of pies which are always fresh and tasty. There is a great selection of other grub to go with your pie, including the obvious mash and gravy. Soft drinks and selected alcohol is also available.
The staff here are really friendly and make the place even better!
One of the few things that will bring me anywhere near the Bull Ring at 5:30pm is the wonderful Urban Pie. Serving a mouth-watering array of deep-filled pies plus mash, vegetables and gravy, Urban Pie is a must-visit for anyone who fancies a filling meal to either eat in or take away.
There are vegetarian options available, as well as one or two sweet pies if the mood takes you. Every day after 5:30, all the pies are reduced to half price, making the place all the more tempting.
They serve a small selection of beers and wines, as well as cold juices, smoothies and milkshakes, and hot teas and coffee. The staff are all very friendly and talkative, making every trip to the 'Pie an enjoyable one.
I think the best thing about Qype is that you discover things you never knew. Half price pies was one of them! Good times!
My favourite pie is the chicken and asparagus, with of course, mash and gravy. The perfect meal to warm you up on a winters day (soon to be evenings with this new revelation!)
At the moment, Urban pie is one of a kind in Birmingham, no doubt it's success will see other branches opened before too long.
Gourmet Pie!! That's it. But their pies are great, with fillings you can't get just anywhere. Wild mushroom and asparagus, lamb and rosemary, and breakfast pie! These are all wrapped in thick cut golden pastry, and cost a bit under 3 quid. Meal deals are also available. And when you compare other meal deals from baguette places and other sandwich shops, Urban Pie might mark up a bit more expensive but it's worth it.
Beers and coffees also available, and if you fancy taking a few home to cook for dinner then you have the option to buy Urban Pie uncooked.
A great place to stop after a hard morning or day's shop, with outside seating between the two centres of the Bullring.
BONUS:: After about 5pm all pies are half price!!
Open 10 til 8pm 7days.
yum yum yum - that's all I can say about this place, if you love pie and mash it's heaven. And even better half price pies after 5pm!! Never a let down.
Ive been here a few times, I found there to be a good selection and my vegetarian friends also found choices. Good food, quite traditional but hearty (as far as pies go) the mash was nice i thought, everyone seems pleased. half price after 5 is always a good bet! ;o)
Gotta love this place. What's better then Pie and Mash? There seems to be bit of a trend for places like this now. Gourmet Burger, Mash House etc. But Urban Pie is pretty good. Often seems to be a good supply of various pie's in with some veggie options too, seasonal veg and the like. It can get pretty busy at peak times, so you will just have to get cosy with some strangers and share a table.
Who ate all the pies? Well, it was me. I like to think of myself as pie connoisseur which makes me a fussy customer. The pies in here are fantastic!! I really can't say anymore than that. Go there right now!
i'm a pure vegetarian and everytime i've been to urban pie, i have always gotten my choice.. but i think i can understand why some pies arent there, probably due to popularity..
its always been a good hearty meal for me, compared to the processed boring taste of greggs/macdonalds/burger king etc etc..
similarly priced too, especially after 5pm..
i've yet to try the wild mushroom and asparagus pie..
im not sure what 'pinklucy' experienced with the mash, because everytime iv been, the mash has been nice n lumpy, like home-made.. (lol@'lumpy')..
anyhoo, yeah id definately recommend it..
I alway go after 5pmall the pies are half price, but it does mean there's not a great selection, so get there bang on time. It's a bit pricey the rest of the time, when you add on mash, beans, drinkit's good food but it's still 'fast food'...the atmosphere is cool but it's tiny so you couldn't stay there for long.
Urban Pie is the perfect place to go after work on a freezing cold evening. Half price at that time as well (its open until 8 weekdays). Friendly staff, yummy pies, it also sells beer/wine (bottles/cans) and you get an awesome pie box which also acts as your plate when you fold the sides down. The gravy is also great (and free!) There are tall wooden tables for seating and they also have toilet facilities. Once you have a pie though you definately will want to go back!
You can get delicious deep filled Urban Pie's for HALF PRICE after 5pm!

What a great offer to warm you up on the chilly winter nights after a spot of Christmas shopping!
The best pies in Town - what more can I say? Forget about those Pukka Pies.....these are real, tasty and fresh.
Great meal, cheaper after 5pm and the place is chic with a good eco-sense (recyclable everything etc).
Great staff and the pies are delicious too. Not my usual type of food but a good choice after and intense day shopping!!
Fantastic food at a fantastic price. Even better on a cold day.
Also, I've never experienced the vegetarian pies being out of stock (in reference to a previous review), and there is usually atleast 2 different vegetarian pies when I go there.
if you love pie- this is the perfect place to visit. With exciting and adventurous flavours like 'chicken balti' and 'thai green curry'- urban pie are really pushing boundaries and transforming the traditional pie experience!! its simple and easy- the box that turns into a plate is genius. and the half price pies after 5pm in the bake sale is definately worth visting!!!
This is a really nice little store for which make nice savory foods. The pies there are very tasty, they do savory as well as sweet pies. All which are just as good as the other. The best time to go is Christmas, the atmosphere in Birmingham city center is really nice and cosy, the lights light up the streets. A grate place to catch a quick, tasty bite.
