Good morning I recently had to go to Lewisham A&E and I just want to
praise them for their excellent care. I felt nervous about being in hospital
and yet once being attended to I was fully confident that I was being checked
over properly. I am very, very fortunate to have such a clean and professional
facility available to me. Thank you to the doctor and nurses. Sophie Kirkham
I think the plus point to any hospital is if you can walk out alive. Well, I'm writing a review which means I made it out.
Seriously, I have always been of two minds about Lewisham Hospital & NHS in general. I have had to be treated there 3 times, two of which were quite serious including my recent issue. There are some hit or misses about the place but as I said I lived to tell the tale and well, all things considered they did a really good job.
I must say it is much cleaner here now than when I first had to stay over some years back.
Bit of a strange review but I have so much thanks for this hospital.
After falling ill and going into hibernation in my last year of uni I was taken overnight into Lewisham A&E. My first proper time in hospital and I has visions of poop smeared wards and crackheads wandering the bays...y'know the usual NHS horror stories people like to tell.
Luckily the ward I was on, a new wing, was beautiful with attentive nurses that knew exactly what they were doing. Lewisham may not be the nicest ends in the city but a lot of London hospitals could learn from this place.
I don't need to go into details of the procedures I've had done at this hospital as it's not relevant to the review, but the nurses, doctors and attendant staff are all marvellous. Receptionists and secretaries leave a bit to be desired, but that's par for the course and I don't think that should detract from the five stars this hospital so richly deserves. It's professionally run and very clean.
We had a very positive experience both with NHS Direct and the very awesome Children's A&E at Lewisham Hospital. Last month we were over from Australia, visiting family & friends in the UK. One afternoon my husband got carried away playing 'aeroplane' with our 3 yr old son, and injured Gabe's arm. It was difficult to tell the extend of the injury and so we put him to bed that night and ran NHS Direct. A nurse called us back and instructed us to get him down to the Children's A&E right away. We were seen immediately and Gabe was given some pain relieve whilst we waited for the Dr. She knew straight away Gabe's arm was dislocated and gently manoeuvred it back in before he realised what was going on. We were so fortunate that we rang NHS that night as Gabe might have had far worse problems if we'd let him sleep on the arm all night. We were very impressed with the correct advice from NHS Direct and the prompt care Gabe received at Lewisham Children's A&E. We were in & out in 90mins which is pretty good at 1am on a Sat night in London!
