A true Glasgow legendary club. Had the pleasure of DJn here on many occassion's over the years and attended the club from the under's events till this day.
Only been here a few times and it's not worth writing home about really.
You need to go down some spiral stairs to get down to the bar which I think was designed with the sole purpose of helping to indicate who has had too many drinks.
It's a good shout on a Wednesday night after Polo when they have a gay night which is usually good.
It's near a strip club which can attract a calibur of nightowls you might not be up for associating with when you're out for a fag.
The Tunnel is one of these places that you 'end up' in, kind of like what The Garage is to Suchiehall Street. You never set out the evening with an intention of actually going there, but it's convienince overwhelms your drunken urge for a good boogie.
It is particularly good on 'gay night' in town, which is a Wednesday, and 'gay nights' usually come with a massive plus; cheesy, catchy music that gets everyone up and dancing. It is only a two minute walk from central station, and pretty close to a few good bars.
I have only ever been to The Tunnel when Allure has been on, and i have always had a real laugh. It's only 2 quid to get in with a student card, and vodka mixers are only a measly pound! They also do a cocktail of the week at £2.50, which is pretty good in the city centre.
I have heard though, from a few reliable sources, that it is a bit of a riot on other nights of the week. It tends to be the younger, neddier folk that frequent it then, Thursday nights running along a 'Fight Club' theme 'Thursday Club'. Says it all really!
I have only been here a handful of times, though it definitely is a great laugh on Wednesdays. Yes, the gay nights here are amazing - cheesy music which everyone can dance to and after a few drinks even the cool kids get over it.
Usually, by the time I've ended up here I've been well lubricated on the drinks front so have only bought a drink or two and for the life of me can't remember what the prices are like. You know how it is after a certain number of drinks...
However, I have once stumbled into here on a Thursday night mistakenly thinking that it'd be as good as gay nights. It was not. The music was pretty bad. The drinks were cheap but rotten. The crowd was horrible - no dancing, just lots of creepy men lurking in the darkness around the dance floor.
Wednesday nights, go for it and have a great boogie. Other nights, stay well away.
Not quite what it was in it's hayday, but a nice venue neverthe less. They have sorted out the crap security guards at least! The drinks are reasonably priced.
i love a friday night when its hip hop night cause you can shake your ass all night
