This is some of the best tapas I have ever eaten! We spent a good few hours here, ordering a couple of dishes at a time, and sharing each dish.
The highlights for me were pork cheek (succulent meat and crispy skin) with thyme and prunes, grilled squid, Almond soup and home tinned sardines, and some AMAZING potatoes with caramelised onions and raw egg.
The service was a bit slow at times, but I think they are still getting over a few teething issues after recently opening. A meal for 4 people including 2 bottles of Rioja, a couple of beers and service came to £130. Highly recommended!

Newington Green has some little gems and this is one of the newest and best.

The small dining space inside is expanded by some outdoor seating on this pedestrianised section of street just off the roundabout. If the weather is as nice as it was last night you could be forgiven for thinking you were in Spain (last Friday night in the September/October heatwave we certainly did)

The food was very tasty with a small menu with a variety of fish, meat (two rabbit items) and seafood along with some vegetable options. The plates are small as you'd expect with tapas but it's not that cheap and you end up spending a fair bit before you're anywhere near full. Still, it has a lovely atmosphere and is booked out every weekend night for both sittings so call up a few days in advance.

Stunning surprises in every dish. There is a seriously talented chef with a wonderfully creative palette in the cucina. Delightful staff and fabulous atmosphere. Best tapas I have ever had. Very reasonable for such stunning eats. Can't wait to come back. Thanks guys you made our evening. Glowing tums now :-) Joshie

It always amuses me to read reviews of tapas places where people complain about the portions being small. It's tapas; the whole point is that the portions are small! I'll admit it's not the cheapest tapas place you'll go to but every dish i had there was utterly delicious. I went with my girlfriends family (7 of us) for lunch and it worked out at about £30 per head, which seems pretty reasonable to me. So, no, it's Not a place to pop for a cheap bite but if you want delicious (small plates of) tapas, then I'd highly recommend it.

I have never seen such tiny little portions and so overpriced considering the size (£7). Table was tiny as well. We were still starving after spending £30 so we went to the Italian and had a calzone pizza to share and a large glass of red, a pastry and an expresso for about £20. Disappointing. Its not Mayfair.

Heard mixed reviews but was still keen to try out. The restaurant is quite quirky with all of the fixtures and fittings on sale (if you like them). Our waiter was friendly although his English was limited. The food is quite unusual but extremely tasty. The portions are small but I was aware of this before I came and made sure to order extra starters! This did make it quite pricey but Trangallan is a unique dining experience and one definitely worth checking out!

History

Established in 2011.

It's been a year since four friends began to talk about opening a restaurant near their homes in Stoke Newington.
Eduardo Garcia, a Spanish chef from Ourense, dreamt of serving a daily-changing menu filled with regional produce, inspired by Mediterranean flavours. Xabier Alvarez Valdes, a sommelier also from Ourense, longed for a place to share his passion of undiscovered wines. Sofia Curi, a fashion designer from Buenos Aires, Argentina, craved a new creative challenge And Borja Sagasti, a performance artist from Vitoria, Spain, felt passionate about creating a space to celebrate arts and events.
