A much, much better tourist information centre than the one across the city!
There are a large range of leaflets and information pamphlets to help you get your bearings and enjoy chester. There are leaflets for tourist attractions further afield, but i found that this tourist centre seemed to focus more on things within chester, rather than the other which seemed desperate to send people away!
The shop was good, and provided a wide range of decent souvenirs and postcards. The staff were very helpful, and more than willing to mark out on maps where certain places were, as well as providing their own personal recommendations on places to go
A very helpful Tourist Information Centre in the middle of Chester. It is housed in an old building which I suspect has an interesting history.
We went there to try and find some details about the cruises on the river and we were given all the necessary information efficiently and politely. Being comparative strangers to the area, the staff there took considerable time to explain the directions to the quay, giving us a map on which they marked the best route for us. Bearing in mind how many times they must have been doing this every day for hapless tourists like ourselves, we were very impressed!
So all in all, a very useful resource for any tourist or visitor -- highly recommended.
The old TIC reopened as Chester's official Visitor Information Centre (VIC) in 2010 - not to be confused with Chester Visitor Centre - after a major make-over. It now has a visitor friendly layout and the latest touch-screen technology.
