This branch of the Works I think is better than others that are around locally. It has more floor space easier to move around and I think they carry more stock than some of the others. Situated on the main shopping street it's always a bright and inviting shop. Staff are always very helpful and willing to help with any queries

If you've ever been in any branch of The Works you'll know exactly what to expect here. They all seem to be the same size and shape with the same layout and stock. Basically they sell heavily discounted books and craft materials. There's everything from hardback to paperback and from novels to biography and reference books to kids books (my daughter loves this shop). It is a great place to buy gifts because not only is there a wide choice of items but you'll find some real bargains. The only downside (and it's obvious why) is that you won't find new chart books here. Definately worth a browse.

I love The Works - a great place for cheap Gifts, books and craft items. Always have some good bargains and offers on, and especially great at Christmas when you need to find presents. A good place for Kids Gifts, always lots of choice.

Similar to all the other Works stores really. It's packed full of discount books, art supplies, and little gift ideas. I get the impression that they operate on a when it's gone, it's gone basis, the stock seems a bit of a mishmash, not that far removed from a pound shop really.
The books they sell are of a high standard, just don't expect any new releases, it's more of a lucky dip. It's great for kids books, and if you're looking for a particular genre of book not necessarily books by a specific author. They also hold a variety of teach yourself books, often accompanied by a DVD, and often selling for under £5.
The DVD's are generally documentary DVD's, fantastic if someone has a keen interest in steam engines, not so great if you're looking to buy the latest blockbuster movies.
I can't comment on the quality of the art supplies, but they do seem to be very keenly priced. The quality of the gift sets, photo frames, toys etc are pretty high when considered in the context of low prices. They sell construction sets similar to meccano but without the same branding for less than a quarter the price of genuine branded kits for example.
A great shop to nip into and have a look around, and probably leave with some bits and bobs that cost very little. Just don't go in there with a shopping list expecting to pick up exactly what you're after!

the works, ah, it really is the works. unless you are looking for something they don't stock of course. they sell really cheap books about all sorts of stuff. you know if you want to get a gift that is a book for someone then the works is good. but they might throw it back in your face because its a compilation book of different garden hoses. I kid you not, i saw that book there for sale. You can also buy art things from here. ie. paints and brushes. and also canvasses. I used to by canvasses for 3 pounds and paint them and then sell them on for 20 pounds. they were good paintings , but it was only cheap enough to make a proffit because they were such cheap canvasses. good shop
