Always busy and popular, nice setting next to the marina. Good range of drinks and choice of menus, but may be ever-so-slightly expensive but not off-putting. Perhaps they have a high rent on the huge place? :-)
Regular visit so I shouldn't complain!!
I went to the Waterfront for lunch today with my vegetarian friend, and we had a lovely time. The servers were friendly and the service attentive, if slightly on the slow side when we asked for the bill.
On the price side, the cheapest main course was around £10 for either the Mediterranean vegetable moussaka, the pie of the day or the homemade burger. The pie was delicious with good pastry and really nice gravy. The chips were excellent, too! My friend had the moussaka, which she said was lovely, and the portions were fairly generous (except for the garlic bread, which was £2 for two squares, which I considered a little pricey). If I had one criticism of the food it would be that I think £10 is a little bit too expensive (£8/£9 would have been better). There wasn't much vegetarian food on the menu, but I think their range of gluten-free dishes was impressive!
In terms of location, it's a little off the beaten track, but that could just be because I'm not used to the area. However, the marina is very pretty and the variety of esoteric shops and other such things in the area makes this an ideal place to grab a bite before having a walk or a sit down in nice surroundings.
This is a new build which forms part of the new retail park at Barton-under-Needwood marina.
It's a large restaurant/bar, which is beautifully built, having a luxurious feel about it. There is a stone floor, timber panels and bare brickwork walls and it features lovely leather seating in a spacious area on the right as you go in. In winter, it has a log fire going and is lovely and cosy.
The bar is in the middle of the area, with the large eating area to your left as you go in.
The quality of the meals is truly excellent ... a wonderful choice with daily specials and a great selection of wines.
I ate there on Boxing Day with my family for about £12 each for a 3 course meal and we couldn't fault it.
For smokers, there are 2 adjacent patio areas with parasols, ashtrays and outdoor heaters. There's also an under-cover outdoor area for use in summer for those eating/drinking.
The place looks out onto the Marina and has a lovely view.
The clientelle is slightly on the older side and it's a great place to meet for a quiet drink or have an intimate or family meal.
I'd highly recommend anyone near-by to take a look ... I'm sure you won't be disappointed!
This is a review of the "Waterfront" pub in the marina.....
A rather inconsistent establishment which makes it difficult to provide a succint review and a single star rating.
The cask beer is superb, with a varied and varying range of interesting ales which are well kept at the right temperature. Its inclusion in the 2010 Good Beer Guide is certainly justified. Worth 5 stars.
Now we come to the food. Not so good. The menu looked interesting but the meals seemed expensive for the fairly small portions. The quality is poor. I enjoy slightly crunchy veg, but that served to me was undercooked and tasted and looked as if it had been left standing for a lengthy period.
The staff were friendly and service was reasonably efficient.
The pub is modern and large. Although it was comfortable and clean I thought the interior bland and lacking in any real ambiance. However the location is great overlooking the marina with boats coming and going.
So pay a visit, sit and enjoy a pint or two of cask beer and the view, then go elsewhere to eat.
lovely food, good service and cosy decor, and you can go for a lovely walk around the lak before or after your meal! Reasonable prices for the quality of the food.
We tried to eat here today. Me, my daughter and 5 other mums and their children.we were told we could not eat as they had a policy of only allowing children in at weekends!!! the place was empty. Not only have they missed out on our bussiness today, but we were planning a big night out and had considered going their so we could all drink and get a taxi home.and also we would have eaten their on a regular basis in this lovely sunny weather having enjoyed a long walk around the lovely marina.I am not sure in this day and age that discrimination because of your age or sex as allowed!!!avoid this place if you have kids or you belive that families have the right to eat in a country pub.
Well worth a visit, especially for the live entertainment.
