A country pub on the A417 in Hartpury. Open fires and a very pretty pub. What a pity that I found the landlord quite surly and the fact that a loud TV dominated the main bar. I go to country pubs to try and escape the unexceptional sight of a TV tuned into sky sports. I want a country pub with cosy open fires and maybe some quiet background music. Not the sound of some sports presenter screeching on about who scored what goal. Anyway having my drink slopped down in front of me and being grunted at isn't going to make me a happy chappy. I wouldn't bother with this pub to be honest as there are a couple of better pubs further down the road.
Expensive drinks, average overpriced food from the visit I made yesterday, their second day of opening so doesn't give much hope does it.
Country pub serving home-made seasonal food and serving real ales, cider and perry
Established in 1855.
The Royal Exchange was established in around 1855 and is situated on the site where it is said, Cavalier and Roundhead prisoners were exchanged during the English Civil War, hence the pub's name!
The pub which is now a Freehouse, changed hands in 2012 and belongs to a local farming family who have lived and worked in the area for over 90 years.
The Royal Exchange has recently undergone a complete refurbishment and has been transformed into a light, warm and welcoming environment for you to bring your friends and family.
So if it's a quick pint of local real ale at the bar, a leisurely bottle of wine taking in the beautiful views on the sun-terrace, or enjoying a home-cooked meal in our cosy garden room, we hope The Royal Exchange will be the pub for you.
Rob, along with a committed team of local staff members, runs the pub.
Matt is the chef and working alongside him are Jay and Chris. They are committed to using the best local and seasonal produce is available to ensure customers can enjoy a lovely home-cooked meal.
