    Nearly perfect.

Five ales on (usually 3 x West Berks and 2 x other micro), plus two fantastic lagers from Cotswold Lager Company (American style).

Haven't eaten there, but good music on once a week or more (blues based).

A fly catcher wouldn't go amiss, but a very minor gripe on an excellent experience.

Try it for weekend early evening. Only £8 in a taxi back to Newbury.

Great, honest family run pub with a really welcoming atmosphere and fantastic local real ale from the West Berks Brewery

Has all you need from a garden for the sunshine to a roaring fire for miserable days - plus a cat and a dog to add a sense of cosiness

Quiz night is the first Wednesday of each month and it good fun - but be careful not to win or you'll be setting the questions for next time!

CAMRA pub of the year for this year (2008)

Having briefly been taken over by a really appauling landlord and landlady this lovely little village pub is now back in good hands and is transformed once again to its former glory by the lovely new couple who are now at the helm.

This is a proper English pub, serving a variety of traditional Ales and Ciders as well as a good choice of wine.

I have now been in on 4 occasions and it seems to be getting better and better as more and more people realise that its in new hands.

On our visit this Sunday we decided we would give the food a try.. what a lovely surprise.

Great homemade pub food with a contemporary twist. Large portions, beautifully presented. I had a starter of baked mini camembert with red onion marmalade and a rocket salad which was absolutely delicious. 2 of us had tian of prawn, crayfish and crab and 1 had pressed confit duck leg. All really really lovely. For main course 3 of us had roast lamb which was really nice. Lovely roast potatoes and one of us had homemade game pie which he was very impressed with.

We all shared a cheeseboard for dessert  it was huge!! The cheese was all served at the correct temperature. Lovely gooey blues and a couple of great cheddars and red leicester. Selection of crackers and a piece of iced fruit cake!  you have to try it!

We finished our food and listened to some local musicians playing some accoustic blues and folk music.

Absolutely wonderful evening had by all.

Had lunch here yesterday and it was very good - honest everyday food, plenty of it and not too expensive. I'm not a drinker- but the beer selection looked excellent. Would definitely visit again.
