The shop is very good for a quick breakfast or brunch. The prices are moderate but the food is way above the average quality. Last time I was here I had the Scottish salmon breakfast and I was just in love. The fish was melting in my mouth and triggered an explosion of senses. The guys also make some decent coffee.
I was going to put 3 stars but I think 'Meh I've experienced better' covers it.
I didn't have a bad experience. I was at a conference at a nearby hotel and popped in here as it had some outdoor seating on the first sunny day of the year and I was peckish.
There's nothing special but I did get a quick bite in the sun.
Jacket potato cheese n coleslaw on a 'bed of salad' (aka a slice of tom and cucumber) for around £6. At a restaurant right next to the station about the price I was expecting and it filled a hole.
Quick, Cheap and unimaginative but perfectly adequate. Plus any thing beats a Nandos or a Burger King....
Ate here twice on a recent trip. The spaghetti with meat sauce I had was surprisingly good. On the second visit, I had the fish (fried cod), and it was very average. The freshness of the fish and the portion size were just average. Instead of chips, I got coleslaw. It was the largest portion of coleslaw I have ever gotten with a meal!
Service is what really brings this place down. After they deliver your entree, you basically disappear to the service staff. If you have to plead for your bill after finishing your meal, don't be surprised.
OK brunch place / cafe
London is known for its great Indian food and my early morning fogged up mind thought a deli-ish place would put out a good Chicken Tikka Baguette sandwich. I suppose if the old chicken wasn't taken fresh out of the refrigerator into my sandwich, it would have tasted better.
For beverage, I got the Chocisimo - On the menu, it said Italian hot chocolate with whipped cream and chocolate shavings. The chocolate shavings turned out to be chocolate powder. Not exciting.
The Scottish smoked salmon breakfast was the wiser choice.
The hot pink cafe is hard to miss on Gloucester Road but I'd steer away from it in search of a better cafe
Stopped in for lunch here on a Tuesday. Service was adequately attentive. American music videos were playing on the TVs. I ordered the fish and chips, which was good - crispy on the outside and tender in the inside.
It took a bit of hand-waving to get the waiters attention after our meal was served, and I was a bit bothered by all the cigarette smoke coming from the patio, but overall it was a decent place.
Skip it. The food was really overpriced for what we got and the service staff gave me the creeps. A plain ham and cheese sandwich for 8 pounds? You didn't even get chips! To their credit, it was not a bad sandwich, but it was definitely a sandwich I could have made at home.
Once we got our food, the servers ignored us and just stood by the door trying to get more customers in the restaurant. The cigarette smoke does waft into the restaurant and there is no air conditioning. It was really hot the evening we were there. I had to practically go up to the guy to ask for the check.
Overall it was just lame. Go to Paul next door for a cheaper sandwhich.
Wow this place is bad. The chips were the only decent thing at this place. We had a party of six and none of us liked our dinner. On top of that, we only saw our waiter twice. Once when he took our drink orders, and again when he brought back the drinks. After that, we heard a manager screaming profanities at him, and he was told to leave. Can NOT believe they would yell at an employee like that in front of so many customers. This place sucks!!!!!!!
Tonight I got takeaway fish & chips here. Based on that meal alone, I would give this restaurant one star. The fish was grey and mushy and had way too much batter! The fillet itself was so small and then it was covered in batter to look like actual fish and chips. And I paid 8.50 GBP for this "meal." Very disappointing.
The reason I gave two stars is because the pastries and desserts here looked delicious and the service was fast and helpful. Just don't go here looking for fish and chips!
Avoid this place. The food was bland, the service was almost non-existent and the ambience shouts tourist trap.
