FINALLY! An affordable nail salon in London that does it right. One of my biggest frustrations about nail places generally in London is you either pay an arm or a leg for really good salon type service, or you go to a little neighborhood local and soak your nails for 5 minutes and get them painted for 30 quid. I'm a chronic nail biter, so having some place I can go every couple of weeks for a new coat and clean up is huge - I love the ambiance here, the products used are good quality (OPI, etc.), and as other reviewers mentioned the vibe here is Shoreditch hipster cool ( I feel like I discover a new tune (or revisit old ones) everytime I come.). Located on Redchurch Street, one of my favourites in London, you can make a whole day of coming out for a little beauty treament.
Just make sure to stop at the cash point before going - nails, at least, are cash only!
Nails. Nails. Nails. Nails. Nails. (I can say it 20x, but I won't -- but I am 20x happier than I was yesterday morning).
Because I made it to Painted Lady (and to Christina) -- and now all of my fingers and all of my toes sparkle and shine with the power of Essie pink and cobalt (pink on toes, cobalt blue on fingers, but of course) -- and love and care and effort and perfection.
Painted Lady is a cute little beauty shop on Redchurch Street specializing in vintage hair, but also regular hair (as I waited I saw a very regular hair being done in a professional way, so have no fear if you aren't a Joanie or a Betty, you can still get your hair done here)-- and most importantly for me, Christina with the Nail portion. She has a small table in the front, and also the entire downstairs devoted to spiffing up the nails. It's got a vintage vibe, but very down to earth. Christina herself is very sweet, professional and does a bang up job with the nails. Nothing short of perfect, and I am an extremely knowledgable critique. If there were Michelin stars for nail salons, I'd be the Executive Director (hmmm...a great idea!).
I opted for an indulgent 2 hour manicure/pedicure with paraffin/hot oil mitts to combat this somehow damp-yet-dry weather London seems to have wrapped itself around in and gotten tangled. Bliss.
I'll be back for much of the same, but will surely opt for the shellac. She has great color options and its not much more costly than a regular polish. On the menu list there is a 20 quid removal fee, but I am not sure if this applies when you are having it removed and a new shellac put on...I'd think not, but would check. It seems steep if you are getting it off in hopes of paying for another!
*cash only for nails.
*booking in advance is most encouraged. She's just one gal!
*online booking is very easy.
Will definitely return and as I mentioned, if 2 hours can make one feel 20x better...it's a worthwhile expenditure.
This is a nice, friendly salon in Shoreditch that I discovered through Yelp. I went to get my nails done because I was in the neighborhood. While I was there, I noticed two things:
1. The salon has a nice vibe to it and I liked being there.
2. Clients were leaving with fantastic-looking hair.
My nails looked fab and now my hair does too - I returned the next day and got a hair cut that really suits me and it was great value, too.
I'll be back!
The Painted Lady is a Friendly little salon with plenty of vintage appeal. The shop itself has quite a 'shabby chic' interior, but everything is comfortable and in great nick (including the backwash sinks which I usually loathe!) and the quirky decor makes for a far more interesting hairdressing experience than some.
Staff are very pleasant and down-to-earth and do a particularly great job if you want a bit of styling or a special 'do' for a big night out. Laid-back is the watchword here, and nothing felt rushed or pressured. The prices are not bad for a London salon. I was really chuffed with my highlights, which I had purchased as part of a special deal, but I will definitely be going back for more!
Shoreditch's most welcoming salon experience, with a vintage twist. The Painted Lady specialises in vintage and contemporary hair styling. Warm and inviting, the salon offers Ladies and Gents haircuts in addition to an impeccable portfolio of services and treatments that spans colour services, highlights/ tint/ dip dyeing/ fashion colouring, hand and foot treatments, manicures and fish pedicures, hen party experiences, one-to-one styling classes and group classes, with threading and shellac services commencing in the New Year.
The Painted Lady London's fun and quirky interior is characteristically vintage, with all pieces sourced from antique shops, fairs and boutique stores across the Capital. The salon comfortably juxtaposes old with new!
