Enormously friendly, shabby, ramshackle, unassuming and reliable, the music studios in Marylebone lane are the rehearsal and teaching venue of choice in Central London. Tucked away in the bit of Marylebone Lane off Wigmore Street, there are six studios for hire, and a waiting room on the first floor. Even a couple of loos, which is always handy if a company are auditioning there, and you've got a gaggle of nervous auditionees.
Again, I get teacher's rates, and do most of my teaching from here, as it's more soundproof than a lot of other rehearsal studios (although not entirely so - very offputting for a less confident student when you've got a big name professional rehearsing for a Wigmore Hall recital next door, which happens frequently).
Timetables are strictly adhered to, and there's a gentleman's agreement that you don't knock on doors prior to your hour starting - as the notices state everyone's work is important.
The pianos are variable - if you're going in to practice the piano, book room 4 or 6. And 2 always seems to be tuned slightly under to my ear.
Block book if you need to close to college exam time (May), as you won't be able to get in for love nor money.
