Since being open only since September, this bar taking the place of "The Golden Lion" has really made an impression on the up-and-coming King's Cross nightlife.

It looks a bit "Hoxton" with the Victorian style font on the sign, which made me a little weary of it at first, but was surprised that it just goes to show that a place can look great but not be pretentious.

The décor is very well done, with a charmingly hotch-potch collection of retro furniture and an array of comfortable seating. There is also a very definite theme of butterflies, as there are a few Guardian style wall charts and display-cases of preserved butterflies (and other more ominous creepy crawlies!) lovingly set around the main bar area.

The cocktail list is just the right length - enough choice without being overwhelming - and I have never yet had one that I've been disappointed with. At £6.50 a pop, for what they are, they are very reasonable and great value. They will also do anything that isn't on the list, or has been taken off it since it first opened. I highly recommend the Blue Bison (no longer on the list, but they'll still make it). Staff are also friendly and chatty, which is always nice.

What I love about the place is that it's very chilled-out. The music in the background is played loud enough to be heard, but you can still easily hold a conversation with someone. Usually a it's a bit of Motown, Northern Soul, or chilled electronica.

They've recently started putting on music and DJ nights, which I have yet to venture down to, but plan to soon. Their recent offering includes a New Orleans jazz singer, and a gay pop-disco!

Stunning place and a triumph for King's Cross.

Not a bad little shindig to have a drink in and relax with friends. Considering King's Cross rough area, this is a great spot.

As good as you're gonna get for a nice bar in Kings Cross. There are some grim pubs around and this has a nicer atmosphere to it. It's a place to meet and talk with friends. The music is inoffensive and is usually not to loud to have a chat. There are tables and comfy sofas. There is a football table and pinball machine. The drinks, I thought, we're slightly on the pricey side. But cheap drinks and a good atmosphere are probably a paradoxical pair. I consider this place a student friendly hang out spot.
