I love the decor and atmosphere at Lamp - Agreed that some of the people who go can be a bit 'clique-y' but as someone has already said, if you go with your friends that doesn't really matter!
I think where Lamp really comes into it's own is as a music venue. The best gig I've ever been to was here, it was a really relaxed, intimate feeling gig which I felt totally comfortable alone at (I went to see Stephen Fretwell, who none of my friends are into!)
I've never eaten at Lamp, but the drinks are good, bar staff friendly, and the outdoor area had some lovely heating last time I was there.
Overall a great little bar in a nice location.
Nice grown up bar near town centre, more over 25s than most of the bars/clubs in Hull. Serves great food early evening and has the usual selection of wines, spirits and an amazingly large selection of bottled world beers.
They support the local band scene quite heavily with live bands playing a few times a week, sometimes free, but usually around £3-£5. Other than that they have funk nights, groove nights, hip-hop nights and so on.
Open to 1am it is a good stop off place before hitting Welly, a three minute walk up the road. Has a nice little outside/smoking area if you fancy some fresh(ish) air. Friendly, relaxed atmosphere and a good location. Can sometimes come across as a touch pretentious and there are definite cliques involved, but if you go with your own friends, who cares?
I agree with Kitteecat's review. I find it a really cool place to visit, but it does have an 'elite' feel to it. The food is very nice and the music is worth paying to see; the Lamp supports new bands, and you get a good range of music styles. The interior is really nicely done, and the range of drinks is impressive.
Used to go to Lamp quite a lot when I lived in Hull a few years ago, and went recently when back visiting family. Doesn't seem to have changed much which is a bonus as I wish there more places like Lamp. It was a bit quiet for a Saturday night though, might have had something to do with the £2 door tax.
I used to really love Lamp years ago, but after its last refurbishment and stopped doing food it's gone down hill a bit. Still miles apart from many other places in Hull and has a good selection of live bands and events.
