So i'm a bit of a gym rat / fitness freak and i've been going to this gym since I moved to the area about a year ago. It's in a great area and the best thing is that it's open 24 hours a day, which is perfect for me.
Over the last few years, due to the recession, we have seen a lot of these cheap gym chains sprouting up and I usually go with the saying 'you get what you pay for'. Now where that's usually proved me right for the most part, it's completely untrue with this gym chain. Monthly rates are dirt cheap, usually around £20 and the gym has everything you could want and need in a gym - state of the art equipment, full range of free weights, stretching areas, changing rooms, classes and PT sessions.
Notice I said gym and not HEALTH CLUB. When I go to the gym I like to TRAIN not swim, jacuzzi, play tennis, steam room, spa or play tennis. If that's what you want then this place is not for you, as it hasn't got any of them and you want somewhere like VIRGIN ACTIVE or DAVID LLOYD and the price that comes with it (upwards of £65 per month plus joining fee).
When I joined this gym I was shocked at how cheap it was a month as I would have gladly paid double every month as that's what I was expecting to pay at least. It's clean, nicely decorated and has everything you would need and more in a gym.
A few recommendations -
- Take full advantage of the 24 hour services. I would say to not train after work 6-10pm on weekdays as you will not be able to do what you need to do in less than 2 hours so you may as well not have gone. I go before work during the week and sometimes at weekends and have no problem using the equipment I need.
- They don't have a wide range of classes so take a look at what they have on the website and see if they do things you like if thats a factor for you.
- Don't get PT sessions here. I've trained athletes and know bad trainers when I see them. Apart from a few, most of the trainers here recycle their sessions and don't make sure their clients are doing the exercises correctly. I think they care more about their money than helping them. Or if you do want sessions here send me a message and i'll recommend the good ones and I promise I don't know any of them personally to just be giving them your business!
Apart from those minor points if you live local and are looking for a gym I thoroughly recommend this place!
YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I got locked in the gym at 1am no one helped, the kiosk wasnt working to change my pin number as it was out of order and when i buzzed a staff member they kept cutting me off, that was the only contact i had for help, i nearly dialled 999, luckily after 30 minutes i remembered my pin.
Even the cleaner tried to help, he was told to let me out and then not to by the person on the other end of the intercom.
the staff member kept cutting me off as i was trying to explain id forgotton my pin.
Joined The Gym West Hampstead after Lab Spa & Club Mill Hill. Ok it don't have pool & spa but I found everything on gym floor much, much better!!! Also what you pay you get really good deal of it. Pevoius club I found very loud socialising club what wasn't for me and that's why I like West Hampstead one. Club members are really into the sport and I like that feeling where u come to gym, get your fitness done and off to go ;)) will def advice for my friends as well. Very happy with The Gym :)
I found everything what I need for my fitness programs at this centre, and it not have to be overlooked. There are many centres where you can't do everything what you want. The guys were very friendly when I visited them for a first time and it was a good sign for me. All equipments are high-class and it's easy to do everything for what you are coming for.
Great gym fab staff or trainers whatever u wanna call them. Some members can be stuck up but u get hoggers or loafers in all walks of life abusing the equipments. The gym needs to urgently expant the free weights area im sure if they think it though it is possible also they need more smith machine also weights above 30kg would be great. Gym should take strict action against members that throw the weights around or do not replace them it is hard to find dumbells at time having 2 sets of each weights is not good at all.
Used to really like this gym, particularly because of the price, air conditioning and cleanliness, but the free weights area is an utter disgrace. It is hugely overused to the point of being unusable during weekdays after around 6pm and lacking in equipment (hint: get another Smith Machine to stop fights breaking out over the single machine there is now). Users also need to be reminded about putting weights back.
Also, in my last few visits a lot of the machines were out of action, possibly something to do with the kind of members it attracts who often don't speak much English, and don't seem to follow any rules about how to use equipment in the gym or how to behave towards their fellow members.
Please, please, please expand the free weights area/equipment and take out some of the underused cardio equipment perhaps.
Hello people, I am using this gym for over 6 months now. Best thing is membership price i.e. 15.99 and timings 24*7. Gym is always neat and clean. Changing rooms are tidy. Natalie and Jane, the managers are very friendly. All Trainers are very professional and helpful. One of the trainer Joe, he even runs a TRX program twice a week for free, really appreciable. Katerina and Nando, two of the best PT I have ever met. Now weight area is not the biggest so if you thinking to use the it in peak times, be ready for the queue. I will definitely recommend this gym. Any doubt, just visit and I am sure they will be more than happy to give you a free tour. WORTH EVERY PENNY GUYS !
I love this gym. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Especially Jane the Assistant Manager/Personal Trainer and Imran Personal Trainer. Jane did a fab programme for me. The equipment is also top notch. Now my second home. : )
