Excellent country pub with good locally sourced food and a several choices of real ale. It is best to book for any evening particularly at weekends. Although you have to order at the bar, a tab is opened for you so you can pay for your food and drink together at the end of the evening. Service was friendly and attentive. The food delicious.
Every table has a selection of games and puzzles to play which is a great idea and gets people talking. (So a good place for that first date!)
The pub is easy to find and has parking at the rear and in the lane nearby. If you are visiting in the summer, a short walk will take you to the village where there is a beautiful old chuch with one of the oldest Yew trees in the country and of course the famous "Long Man" or "Wilmington Giant" The ancient hill-figure which gives the pub its name. A certificate in the bar also advises that it has previously not only been a regular in the Good Pub Guide but also is a "Druid Friendly Pub"
This is a really attractive place that serves some fantastic home cooked pub grub. The menus are all on blackboards and can change quite regularly depending on the available local produce which is really reassuring.
The staff and management here are really down to earth and friendly even when the heat is on crowd wise (it gets packed on a sunny day due to the lovely gardens).
Try the rabbit and bacon pie, it is mouth watering!
Great country pub, very cosy in the winter, nice in the summer. Food of a very high standard, a little pricey, but worth it! Each table has different table games on to keep you amused whilst you wait for your food! Good choice of drinks available and menu that will suit all. Even looking at the menu online makes my mouth water! Worth a visit although you may have to book ahead.
