One of the decent restaurants in lancaster(considering how small the town is!!). The entire restaurant is at the basement and it designed to look like a cave--in a nice way.
If you want to try a decent british meal, then go there. the price is not usually cheap but it is worth the money. You will need to book it for dinner cos it tend to be fully booked very often. The lunch menu is not even close to the dinner one, so dont recommend.
I've been to the Gatehouse only once for a departmental Christmas Lunch. The quality of the food was quite well. Yet, though we made our choices a month before the lunch, the service was quite slow with long breaks between courses.
Worth to rest and enjoy at the picnic tables outside on dry days.
Lancaster has plenty of restaurants that do good food but the Gatehouse is one of a select few that does great food, IMHO.
One of the best eating places in Lancaster. Really good intersting food but not too trying to be too fancy and they do a fixed price thing on Mon and Tues nights which is a good deal. (it might be other nights as well)
Quirky decor and nice staff.
I have been to The Gatehouse several times, and can't recommend it highly enough. The food is wonderful (be warned - the starters can be quite filling!) delicious and vey high quality, some vegetarian options. The decor is lovely, very Mediterranean, nice little alcoves to add a cosy feel to the place. The only negative is that it is not easy to find, tucked away down a small road and not well signed, but it's certainly worth a visit.
