On my last visit home, I found that the closest Pub to my parents' house, The Dove, had been transformed from an unfriendly, grimy, unwelcoming place with a mediocre beer selection, to one of the best (if not the best) Real Ale pubs in Bury.

The bar area has been renovated very simply, it seems by just removing ugly paint and showing off the original features of the building. There is no music, just the sound of a packed bar enjoying an excellent and ever-changing selection of local real ales. There are even home made pork scratching sold by the half pint, no need to say any more.

In a town full of "real ale" this is the place with the best beer. No lager or card payments.

One of the best pubs in Bury St. Edmunds. A great selection of British ales, especially local beers from around East Anglia.

Personally, I'd like them to get a few more from slightly further afield and be a little more adventurous with their beer styles and strengths (most beers are session strength), but I can usually find something good.

They have 2 pumps dedicated to the same "safe" beers, like Woodfordes Wherry, which I think is a bit of a waste, since they are easy to get elsewhere.

    Worth a trip.

Visited Bury St Edmunds 19  26/3/13 on holiday visiting relatives. I happened to mention I enjoyed a pint of Real Ale and my Brother-In-Law took us to the Bar on Sunday afternoon. The place was full, Staff very Friendly as were the Customers. Being Scottish I bought the first round, three Pints of Beer and a Shandy £8.80 !!! Being Scottish I queried the price!!! It was correct !!! My Brother-In-Law and I had another Pint Each  Red Diesel  Excellent  Price £5.20  couldn't believe these prices !!! Last orders called at 14.45 and the Jovial Landlord came round urging everyone to buy more drink- He needed the money. Didn't know Bar closed at 15.00 but didn't want another drink anyway and the two Ladies had drunk enough also !!!. Suffice to say 2 Pints of Real Ale before dinner makes you a little bit light-headed !!! Never Drink on an empty head !!! Liked the General Ambience of the Pub, Very Friendly Owner and Staff, Toilets and Bar Area spotlessly clean and Excellent Prices. Will return next time I'm in the Area.
