What a fantastic discovery this place was! I visited this real-ale heaven of a pub on a Saturday night out with my brother in Whalley, and we didn't go anywhere else it was that good!
The beer range was extensive and superbly maintained and served, every pint that we had was top notch. For you beer afficianados, they had (amongst others) Hopstar Lancashire Gold, Moorhouses Black Witch (an autumnal favorite!), Tirril Old Faithful, Rossendale Golden Halo, and Wakefield Fernandes.
The ambience in the place was really welcoming, with good seats in the corners if you are after quiet, no rowdiness at all, just people (mostly older ones, admittedly!) enjoying a decent beer in decent surroundings.
If only there was a pub like this in every town.
The Dog is a traditional and friendly local in the heart of Whalley in the Ribble Valley. It offers basic pub grub and has a pool room, beer garden and jukebox. I often visit when I'm back home and I never fail to have a nice few drinks with friends at the Dog. It has a lively atmosphere on a Friday and Saturday night and is occasionally frequented by some interesting individuals - but that in my opinion is what village pubs are all about. Great pub and cheap too! Bargain.
A good variety of beers and ales, good food is available daily in a friendly venue. Right in the centre of town with other pubs nearby if you're keen to move on later for a change of scenery.
Great pub, good pint, good atmosphere
