Went there twice during our week stay. Both visits were excellent! Food and service were great!
Cozy, friendly, lovely British pub. They have a wide selection of beers and wine and food is always delicious and fresh. Go for the pie of the day, you'll be never disappointed. The atmosphere is always good in there and in the summer time if you are lucky you'll find a spot in the lovely back garden and if you are really lucky it could be a barbecue day!
Reviewing my local work pub was on my to-do list but honestly I wished my office wasn't based in North Acton since you could describe the area as an urban desert, vast emptiness or architectural disaster. You would wonder why would someone try to trade around there but owners of The Castle have quite a good niche to serve - the people who work in my office. I won't disclose the name of the company but there are a lot of us, working for few different brands under a bigger umbrella of one parent company. Hence the place hasn't gone out of the business yet. The place itself is pretty boring but they do try to bring it to life with Australia Day or School Night themes. I find their efforts entertaining as they already have profits guaranteed from all the office workers around and virtually no competition around. The food is actually not bad so if you find yourself starving on the way to central then I would give their menu a try.
And you would never guess what celebrity has been in the pub recently. The one and only Lady Gaga decided to have a drink in there after the X-factor live shows. Person as quirky and eccentric as her in a place as boring and predictable as The Castle!
Imagine amazement of everyone in the office when we found out where Lady Gaga was hanging out on Saturday. Some people have got a strange taste! Maybe she was looking for some real, down-to earth, middle of the road pub experience? No idea. Most likely, it was the fact that X-factor live shows were recordered just down the road in Wembley...
If you are in the neighbourhood then check it out, but I wouldn't bother if it's out of your way.
It's a pub, so you should know what to expect before walking in. Unfortunately, when we went, they were out of a lot of their food limiting the choices of what can soak up the beer.
For a pub this place got most of what you want: Nice staff, Good food, Great music, A lovely heated green beer garden, A nice atmosphere, Sport, Poker nights etc. The only thing I think is missing is a pool table and live music/stand up evening. Well worth a visit!
