How to identify a successful fast food outlet.
1. Nearby competitors serving similar food empty despite long line snaking out of Taza. Check.
2. Limited menu showing absolute confidence in your product. Lamb shwarma, chicken shwarma, mixed shwarma, falafel. Period. Mixed fruit juices. Check.
3. A small shop with not enough space if I'm being honest. Haven't sold out to corporate chain. Check.
4. Open windows onto street offer whaft of amazing smells from the 2 rotating spits. The meat is visibly made up of whole pieces of fresh meat, not an amorphous lump like most kebab shops. Check.
5. Finding myself joining the end of a 20 minute queue out in the cold when I'm in the area. Check.
Seriously good kebabs!
THE BEST KEBABS AND SHAWARMAS IN LONDON. PERIOD.
There are lines that go out the door daily, but it's well worth it for a shawarma or two. They have an incredible sauce that drips wonderfully into the hands so you can lick your fingers after you're done shoving the sandwich down your pie-hole.
Then, there's fresh juices to wash it all down. Oh the memories! I swear the next time I step foot in ol' Blighty, this is the first place I'll stop for a kebab.
When I was backpacking Europe, Taza was my go to shop for cheap eats in London. About 3 quid for a lamb or chicken kebab, go with extra spicy sauce. They also have the sauces and cabbage slaw on the side if you need more. Lines can be a little long, which can suck when you have to stand in the rain since the shop is pretty small, but it's damn worth it.
I love Taza. Lamb or chicken? Lamb or chicken? How about both! Not in one sandwich, mind you, but in two. (Works better with two people but I always feel deprived if I can't at least have a bite of both in any given outing there.) Delicious. Sometimes we skip fancy meals out because we haven't had Taza yet.
Taza Sandwich... a bit of a yin and yan offering. On one hand, you have a rotating pillar slab of kebab meat, and on the other, wicker baskets of fresh fruit ready to be pureéd for your enjoyment! So they provide everything I could possibly need in one go. A greasy plate of savaged meat to feast upon, and a cool Apple and Mango juice injection to wash it down with. The prices are a little bit expensive but it's a normal correlation the further West you go in London, and you have to understand that they have to pay for the fruit somehow! There are quite a few places in the shop to sit but they are usually taken, and I can't blame them one bit.
