Part of a chain of 'all u can eat' restaurants - you pay once for your plate and can go and get what you want in whatever quantity you want, as often as you want!
There is a huge range of food available, from traditional roast dinners to Chinese and Italian food.
Be prepared to queue for some time on a Sunday lunch time as many others like you will be trying to avoid the hassle of cooking and washing up!
There are vegetarian options available, but it's sometimes not clearly labelled, and the staff don't have much of an idea what is veggie and what isn't. You have to keep an eye out for serving spoons that have been used for meat that have been put in the veggie dishes not good!
If you have a large appetite and the choice of a large range of food items, then this could be the place for you.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Qype User (Victor…)Durham1622 Dec 2008
We go to Taybarns fairly often, and as the previous reviewer said the quality of food really is excellent for any price, let alone the prices charged here
The refillable soft drinks are very gassy though so I am guessing are designed to help fill you up. On occasions where you have to wait for a table they give you the drinks whilst you wait - for kids this means they are almost full before they get to sit down lol!
I really like Taybarns - my only real issues are cleanliness. Plates and cutlery are often washed so quickly they retain food residue and are often filthy. I've often gone through 10 plates to find a clean one!
However, its great value, the food is very high quality (the battered fish is superb, and the salmon skewers were incredible, though they have stopped doing them now!)Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Qype User (poolie…)Manchester555 Aug 2011
We were stopping at one of the Premier Inns in the area and there was an offer on for Taybarns we liked it enough to go back again a couple of days later!
This is ultimately about value for money. For about £8 per adult at peak times, you shouldn't be expecting gourmet fayre, but it's decent enough and the range is enough that there's no shortage of options. With desserts included a choice of about 8 including two hot options the only real complaint is that it's far too easy to eat too much!
We didn't find any problems with cleanliness of plates etc, and the staff were helpful and welcoming.
Don't go there expecting the best meal you've ever had but for reasonable quality in ridiculous quantity it's hard to beat.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Qype User (shaypa…)Newcastle upon Tyne, Tyne and Wear0619 Aug 2011
More food on the floor than on peoples plates
Food is always cold
ice cream is tasteless
Sausages are greasy (you can milk it like a cow)
Custard is lumpy
AVOID AT ALL COST I THROW UP IN THERE TOILETS
WOULD NEVER GO BACKHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Qype User (wright…)Newcastle upon Tyne, Tyne and Wear0526 Apr 2009
Tried Taybarns for the first time recently after being reccomended by a friend. Taybarns is one of your ever popular all you can eat places that are sprouting up everywhere these days.Upon entry you are presented with a fairly basic but tidy diner type of affair with plenty of space to eat. On the menu there is an array of choices available such as chicken, fish, various red meats and even a carvery for sunday lunch. As its unlimited you can often eat a little too much, however as with most of these types of diner its a case of quantity as opposed to quality in that its ok for the price (£5.95 Week day ) but its not the kind of place you could eat very often. All in all though not a bad experience.

I have only been to Taybarns one, and I have to say I wasn't all that impressed. They offer a huge variety of choice and its all you can at so you can gwt your moneys worth. When I went however i found that all the food was a bit dry, as if it had brrn standing for a long time, also some of the things did not look very appealing at all. Not the worst place I have ever eaten but not by far the best.

WOW WOW WOW
My family love this place - all you can eat - or as my 8yr old says the stuff your face place.
Its an all you can eat buffet restaurant run by the Whitbread group, the prices are extremely competitive but the quality has been top notch everytime we have been.
There are 2 price bands - Mon - Fri 11:30am - 5:30pm
£5.95
Mon - Fri 5:30pm - Late
£7.95
Sat & Sun 11:30am - Late
£7.95
Children under 10

Bank Holiday

For this you get a wide range of foods including roast turkey and roast gammon, chinese, pizza, grill (burgers, sausages etc), salads, soup, fish plus all the trimmings - as much as you want of anything you want, you can grab a clean plate whenever you like so no problems about gravy with your sweet & sour chicken.
Then theres dessert - my speciality - an ice cream machine with sweets for the kids (self serve - most end up with bowl of sweets with a bit of ice cream) and choices include apple pie (mums fave), choc fudge cake, raspberry cheesecake, profiterols, fruit salad, bannoffe pie, rhubarb crumble along with unlimited cream, hot choc sauce, raspberry coulis, custard.
Theyre licensed or theres a refillable pop option for about £1.80, water for free and coffee / tea.
The staff are superb, competent but unobtrusive - readily clearing used crockery to leave more space for more plates and extrememly friendly - nothing is too much bother.
Theres plenty of space even when its busy the only queue is to get in (usually only 10 mins or so) and the roast section is sometimes busy but only 2 / 3 mins max.
Plenty of booster seats / high chairs, toilets are clean, disables accesible, and the whole place is welcoming and comfortable.
We don't eat out anywehre else now - Plus you get nectar points!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Qype User (northe…)Gateshead, Tyne and Wear36927 Jan 2009
As long as you don't mind the noise this is a great place to pop in for a good value meal. Wouldn't choose it for a proper meal out now that my kids are older, but then it is really catering for families and it's nice to see tables where three generations are enjoying a Sunday lunch out. Agree with previous reviews about the plates and cutlery not always being clean, but the staff have always been helpful and good at dealing with a high turnover of people. Lots to choose from and the quality is excellent.
