An excellent selection of boutique wines on offer accompanied by a monthly changing selection.
Both the monthly and the standard list comprises of a fine selection of white & red wines along with a handful of Champagne's.
The staff are on hand and happy to give an insight into their selection and seem enthusiastic about their work.
They also serve up a few snacks and nibbles which are of a good standard and will keep you occupied until you need more sustenance which one of the local restaurants can offer.
The decor inside is subtle and the location is very good. They also have a large open conservatory, which leads onto a small outside space which features a shed-like construction.
All round a great place, excellent prices and a nice atmosphere. Highly recommended.
I'm sitting at Summertown Wine Cafe as we speak, so this review is straight from the horses' mouth, as they say.
The Canadian girlfriend of an Oxford-raised fella, I've been fortunate enough to have frequent long-term visits to the city of dreaming spires over the years, and Summertown Wine Cafe has always been a favourite spot of mine. Lucky me, I'm living here now & can go whenever I please!
But more to the point- Summertown Wine Cafe is a lovely place. It walks the line between posh wine bar & casual cafe in a completely unique way. You can lounge about with a cappucino & enjoy the free wifi in the corner, or you can come round with a friend or two & enjoy the impressive wine selection.
The decor is wonderful, warm & inviting as well. The staff are friendly & they bring your drinks outside for you.
One of my only complaints is that they have some better lighting in the outdoor seating area.Been sitting out here for a bit, It's a tad too dark out here when you're enjoying a glass of red after the sun goes down.
Update: Literally 2 seconds after I wrote that, someone turned on some lighting....and brought me a little candle! Mind readers!
Came here right after it first opened, years ago, and was surprised to find such a well curated selection of wines from the world over.
All these years later and the Cafe is still a hit, and I'm looking forward to my next visit in a short while.
This very upmarket bar is a must for my wife, when we visit Oxford. I've always been used to, a little bit more rough, as she puts it! However I have to say it is really nice.! Staff are excellent and the stock seems to be unending. You can buy a ticket for 25 quid and attend Tasting Sessions on Tuesdays.(good job we only go up weekends).
For me, they do really great coffeecan't speak highly enough of it!! Terrific taste and strength.
Summertown Wine Cafe is refreshingly casual. Come early for their coffee and quiche - they pull a decent espresso or later for a glass and cheese plate.
You'll see people catching up over a bottle, studying with some coffee and snacks, playing Settlers of Catan on their large tables, and even a child's birthday party.
But it's best to come for their happy hour - everyday from Noon to 7pm.
TIP: They're wine tastings are fun and usually need to be booked in advance. They don't do tastings on Wednesdays.
Nice decor, comfortable seats, friendly and knowledgeable staff. A lot of the wine isn't really to my taste -- they tend toward the brasher end of the taste spectrum -- and it isn't cheap, but it is clear that they really care about their wine and put a lot of effort in to choosing ti and serving it right. Lots of special events too.
The first time that I visited this wine cafe was to do a spot of tasting with a friend. This in itself was a worthwhile experience-sampling a variety of wines for a moderate fee, with cheese to match! However, we were soon lured into the world of 'Yannick Suppers', dinner parties prepared by the iconic French chef of the same name. For the price of £27 (less for members) one can sit down to dinner with 10 or 12 others, enjoying free wine and superb French cuisine. If that sounds too much, try a croque monsieur in the daytime washed down with a cup of coffee or house wine. It's child-friendly, too!
great place for coffee, brunch and most of all wine. rotating tasting menu of unusual wines. lots of events, but you can do a tasting any time. conservatory out back is v nice. free wifi.
