A total guilty organic pleasure for when you want to get in touch with your inner Nigella! Fab shop with great range of products which you don't usually find in Supermarkets and a big hit with all the yummy mummy's on their way to do the school run - amaaaaaaaazing homemade cakes (got to try the lemon drizzle) and breads. Also have a great frozen patisserie section where you can get a pick'n'mix of croissants, pain au chocolat etc which you then take home and bake in the oven. A favourite family treat in our house! There is a lovely cafe there too which is perfect for a cream tea. Tucked away in a peaceful location but really easy to get to.
Driving under the Orwell Bridge, out of Ipswich, heading towards the Shotley peninsular there are a few signposts for the Suffolk Food Hall.
This is a permanent farmers market where you can buy quality meats, fish, veg, cheese, etc - all with great prevenance, and of high quality. I often buy the Sunday roast there - they do a great beef on the rib.
Also here is the Bourne Garden Centre and the Samford Restaurant Cafe.
The cafe is small and well served with a menu of homemade dishes (I like the Suffolk Steak Sandwich). There is usually also a good selection of veggie options. The menu is not huge, but does seem to offer a decent degree of choice.
The food is very good quality - I believe that the current chef came from The Alex in Felixstowe. The prices are not cheap, but that is reflected in the quality of the food, so I don't think the food is overpriced.
Service is friendly and good, and there are stunning views out to the Orwell Bridge.
Super chef cooked food. A great mix of traditional and innovative dishes. Main meals, starters, puddings and childrens portions too. Lovely rustic tables, original artwork on the walls and a superb balcony with stunning views across the River Orwell. Located with the Suffolk Food Hall and Bourne Garden Centre - it's well worth a visit, Lots of free parking and prices very good.
Celebrating all that is great about local food under one roof, with a full butcher's shop, wet fish counter, delicatessen, artisan baker, wine merchant, cafe, restaurant, gift shop, garden centre and more. Located in a Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, just south of Ipswich with stunning views down the River Orwell.
Established in 2005.
As Suffolk farmers, we were frustrated that our friends often had limited access to much of the fantastic food produced locally. Spurred into action by this opportunity, the concept of a showcase for quality local food with provenance took shape and the Suffolk Food Hall collaboration was born.
