The beds were alright. Pretty standard layout.
The showers? Not so much.
Very good location, as well as a great bar downstairs.
As far as hostels go, St. Christopher's seems to be pretty legit. I stayed at this one and the one in Amsterdam. Both have a great bar, where you can get great drink specials & some yummy apps and entrees that won't break the bank. They had 2for1 beer of the month, which was awesome.
I can't say much for the room, it was just a huge room with a dozen or so beds, pretty standard. The bathroom was nice and clean, with multiple stalls. The hostel is also very secure, and separate from the bar downstairs. The staff was mixed, one girl was super nice, while I recall the bartender being a bit rough.
Very conveniently located to the metro stop, as well.
Damn, remember air conditioning? Well, it does not exist in this place so be ready to sleep in an oven. Not even a fan. Luckily there was a space heater sitting under the sink though....
There was a deal for the hostel guests at the bar....but you had to have some card for them to scan...if you didn't have the card they were happy to "make an exception".....but why do I need a card when you KNOW I'm stay here. Type a code into the register for Christ's sake.
There is no real lounge but the do let you hang out on the couches in the bar, with no problem. There is this weird swampy area in the basement with a 15 year old futon, so you can hang out there too...if you dare. There is a shitty, dirty microwave down there and a TV that doesn't work.
The toilet seat was not attached to the toilet.
The hostel doesn't organize any events for you to get to know the other people staying there so you're on your own there.
They kick you out (yes, kick you out) of your room in order to clean it. I was told "you can't come back until 2pm"...this was at 11am. When I came back to get my camera out of my bag, I was told "you shouldn't be in here". Um...the charge on my credit card says I should.
The asshole manage refused shots to these two girls from Brazil because they couldn't pronounce "Jager" correctly...I mean REALLY?? Isn't this a place for international travelers?
The best part about this hostel is the location - Camden Town is the shit. Get out and explore - go back here only to sleep.
DEC 2009 - and the heat WORKED as well as the HOT WATER... so that was a plus. I agree with Kristen. I chose it bcs I wanted to walk around and shop and kinda feel like lived just outside of London. There are a few cool bars nearby with live bands. Food and grocery stores are nearby. Overall, I'd go back if I needed to stay in the area again.
What I liked most was the location near all the shopping, bars, clubs, and restaraunts. It may be a little out of the way for some, but I like to jog and walk a lot when I travel.
Great position, very close to Zone 1, convenient for transportation with Camden Town tube station nearby, very close to Camden Market and Stables Market, which is great for shopping. The staffs were friendly and helpful. The atmosphere in the bar downstairs was good.
However, the shower, the sink and the toilet are very 'inconvenient'. They're so small even to an Asian like me, I don't know how others can take it. A roommate told me he found it very difficult having a shower because he's so big and the stand was so sooo small.
Also the shower itself wasnt very clean. The same with the toilet. I lived on the 1st floor and it has 2 toilets. One with heater was kinda warm and clean but the other one was awful, some people even threw up in there, many people complained about it, saying it was so 'gross' and 'nasty'... I think someone cleaned it but sorta left some 'spots' there, which was still kinda gross to me.
Another thing is that, since it's got a bar downstairs, it becomes very very noisy at night. If you're a party person, you wouldnt mind that, but if you want a peaceful holiday with quiet night sleep, I do not recommend this.
Moreover, they dont provide wifi in the rooms, wifi access is available only in the bar or in the common room downstairs -- which itself was kinda small comparing to the number of people who might want to surf the internet.
I guess with a cheap price hostel in a great position, I can't ask for too much.
Great location awesome staff, great drink promos, beds were comfy. Only thing is if your looking to sleep peacefully its a no. It's quite loud but overall my experience was great.
