Super nice hotel in Berlin. Excellent facilities, pretty spacious hotel rooms with everything you need.
Breakfast is expensive (28euro pp) but they offer on the ground floor a more basic breakfast for 10 euro pp.
Large rooms, good beds, well outfitted. Good concierge (Michael), nice bar, odd decorations. Pricey for Berlin but still a decent price for its luxurious style. So why was there only one toilet roll in the room and they never added one? We almost ran out. Bizarre mistake for a luxury hotel and it sure keeps them out of a five rating.
Recently traveled to Berlin and I am happy to report that the Hotel Concorde is as excellent as the reviews I read online.
First and foremost, the value here is amazing. We booked on a popular hotel booking site and got a deluxe room for an unbelievable price. The location is very central and quite convenient.
The hotel is close to most of the major attractions as well as some good restaurants and coffee shops. Another benefit is that you are very close to the metro, so you can easily get all around the city if you'd rather not take a taxi (which can be expensive).
Regarding negatives, the only thing that comes to mind is that the Hotel Concorde isn't as opulent or service oriented as other 5 star hotels I've stayed at. Not that it was a problem for me or even a bad experience, but if you are expecting the little extras you usually get at a 5 star hotel (like white glove service or lush decor) you wont find it here. It's really more like a 4.5 star hotel and if you've stayed at a genuine 5 star hotel, there is quite a difference. That aside, this is an outstanding hotel and I highly recommend it.
Pros - Convenient location, outstanding value, clean throughout, huge rooms, very good amenities, friendly staff.
Cons - Not quite the same standard as typical 5 star hotels in Europe.
Wonderful hotel. Perfect location to everything, great service, clean, comfy beds, wonderful breakfasts! Would not hesitate to recommend to anyone. Good value for money too!
this is the ONLY hotel that when I arrived via taxi the door was opened for me and I was welcomed by name (even years later I dont know how they knew who I was) but my socks were knocked off by this level of professionalism... the hotel was SEXY and modern and I would not hesitate to stay again...my only complaint was for the amount of money spent here we still had to pay for internet access..
4++++ Stars! I want to give it a solid 5 but for two minor reasons (explained later) im giving it 4++++.
-The service I experienced at this hotel was impeccable, upbeat ( without being inappropriately in your face), professional yet personable, and just so competent and customer focused it was a pleasure the entire time I stayed at the hotel (about a week).
-The clientele at the hotel was also appealing in that they were not loud demanding tourists generally, neither were they conspicuous poseurs.
-The rooms were modern, clean and the best part (for me) was the wi-fi worked start to finish with multiple ports ( more than one device) and when there was a question they had competent techies who handled it instantly without any of the "our IT person is off for the weekend so there's nothing we can do and our outsourced IT provider said they have tried everything to no avail" responses I've received repeatedly in other hotels.
-I arrived early ( 10 am) from an 18 hour international flight and without my having requested beforehand, they did everything they could and gave me a room by 11:00 am, even though check-in was 3pm.
-the breakfast buffet was not a typical Americana overdose of pancakes, waffles, blintzes, omlettes, eggs benedict, French toast, etc. nor was it just cold cereal and bread. It was great fresh fruit, couple of egg dishes and great coffee drinks (cappuccino etc.) included. The manager on in the morning at the buffet was so professional and on-point constantly perusing the room anticipating the next customer need. It was pretty amazing and wonderfully old school in that the whole staff tried to address all "needs" before they surfaced rather than have the customer even realize they wanted for anything.
Now the only two (minor) drawbacks for me:
-work-out room was a virtual closet with very few machines, dark and incredibly cramped tight space even by European standards. While most folks don't travel to work out I find that the opportunity to open the valves once a day in a dedicated space is really nice and the space at the hotel was not inviting.
-location. I guess many folks like this area since there were a lot of "big name" hotels. I found it to be out of the way and not in the pulse/part of the city that I most enjoyed (the Mitte). It felt like being close to Union Square & Market Street in San Francisco for those familiar with San Francisco. The Mitte was a much more appealing
Area to my taste.
But the hotel itself is a definite winner thanks in large part to the employees.
