The food was excellent. I got cheese and onion pie (lunch) and tried the chocolate challenge (which we failed dismally). The chocolate was to die for...totally scrumptious. The service was really good with friendly and knowledgeable staff. I'll be back for sure. The prices were good also.

The seating was good and the wait was not long ( although I booked ahead of time).

TL;DR - An institution with a well deserved reputation. Cakes, chocolates and desserts that are tough to beat.

Slattery is a place which everyone seems to have heard of, it's reputation definitely precedes it. It's a family run business based in Whitefield and the third generation of the family are now working at the current premises.

The business itself is split into several parts. The most obvious when you arrive is the shop, selling all kinds of cakes, chocolates and treats - plus savoury pies and sandwiches, bread and catering supplies. It's a good place to get unusual gifts for people.

The second part is the outside catering business. They do catering for venues and, most visibly, wedding cakes. The shop is full of lots of examples of the kind of thing they can produce and they all look, frankly, stunning. If you want a wedding cake to wow, this is the place.

The third, and least obvious part is Mason's Restaurant which is upstairs. Apparently you can get a table mid-week fairly easily but if you want to go at the weekend you need to book weeks if not months in advance. We finally made it there for afternoon tea which was delicious - a round of finger sandwiches, incredibly light scones with jam and clotted cream, rounded out by a selection of desserts. All delicious, and very reasonably priced. The restaurant does all kinds of other foods, savoury and sweet, but keep an eye out for the Slattery Chocolate Challenge: chocolate fudge cake, chocolate ice cream and a hot chocolate. If you finish it, you get a chocolate medal and a box of chocolates!

I've just been going trough some old Instagram photos (unemployed problems!!) and came across the chocolate challenge I did at Slatterys a few years ago. Still one of my best achievements to date!

Easily one of the best patisseries in Manchester. The ground floor is chock full of their celebration cakes, they'll make pretty much any cake for any occasion in all sorts of shapes and sizes. My friend bought her wedding cake from here and it was divine! They also have a huge chocolate gift shop on the ground floor, you can spend hours looking round!

Upstairs in the restaurant gets pretty busy so it's always best to book, especially if you want to go at the weekends. Some bookings have to be made weeks in advance. There is also a baking area where you can watch the cakes being made!

      Slattery's chocolate challenge!

One word. Amazing. As soon as you step through the door you see all the lively wedding and birthday cakes. There cake you could only dream of. The staff are friendly and help full. You can just browse the shop and try to resist the chocolate (which is impossible) or buy a cake to take away. Upstairs they have a restaurant which is always full booked. Its a must to book in advance if you really want to go. You can just have a coffee, cake, breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea. The mist popular is there famous swiss hot chocolate which us to die for.

The best Patissier and Chocolatier in North Manchester.

Any time I drive into Manchester (which is very often) I have to drive past Slattery's and always manage to make some excuse to pop in. I shouldn't have to make an excuse to go here - It's excellent.

The ground floor is their outstanding chocolate and cake shop - definitely worth spending some time here tasting and choosing what they have on offer.
Their selection of over 40 celebration cakes on display are stunning - you'll find yourself staring at them like some sort of art. A few of the wedding cakes are pushing £1,000.. asking if it would be worth it? For me, yes! Their cakes are amazing - no wonder Wayne Rooney bought his wedding cake from here and had it shipped to Italy.

You'll find me with my face pressed up against the viewing window where you can watch the cake decorators working hard to perfect these masterpieces *drool*
I'm certainly not planning my wedding or anything but I already know that there's a massive possibility that my cake will be from here.

On the first floor is an elegant restaurant serving breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, and of course CAKE. The menu is fab and I haven't heard anybody mention a bad word about it. I have yet to visit the restaurant and I hear that unless you book weeks in advance you've no chance of getting in, but this only makes me want to try it even more and it is certainly on my list.

In the past I have bought baskets from here and made my own hampers, mainly for family or friends at Christmas time - consisting of chocolates, hand make cakes, biscuits, marmalades, wines etc (all locally sourced). Safe to say these always go down well.

If you have a sweet tooth, this is somewhere you should definitely visit.

This was my second visit to both slatterys chocolate/cake shop and the Mason dining rooms above - I had high expectations and it didn't disappoint!

Having arrived for brunch our table had a variety of items off the breakfast and main menu (breakfast being available until 11.30) I had the eggs benedict with bacon which was perfect with a gorgeously rich and delicious hollandaise. My friends similarly thought the rarebit and smoked salmon and eggs were marvellous.

Now no visit to slatterys is complete without chocolate and the hot chocolate delivers on that score. I enjoy the milk chocolate version which is a tall coffee glass coated with a milky Swiss type chocolate, filled with hot milk, with another disc of chocolate on top, mmm.

A wide variety of cakes and puddings rounds off the meal but to be honest I was too full to do it justice - I'd highly recommend a separate visit for cake and coffee! !

Begin waffles with strawberries and cream - fabulous but bring a good appetite if you are planning on 2 courses!

      Too much excellent choice!

Slattery is a North Manchester institution, offering chocolate and cake to the discerning masses for over 30 years. When they reopened in this grand building with an enormous first floor tearoom, I kept saying to myself that I had to go.

Finally, I've made it, and it was good, but not great. Service was fine, the drinks were okay, the scrambled eggs... were microwaved. If only the hot food was as well-made and presented as the chocolate and cakes made on the premises, I'd be going back every week.

Just a five minute walk from Whitefield tram station, Slattery is potentially very good, but you need to interrogate the menu before committing.

A gem in amongst the semi detached houses of Whitefield, Slattery's Patisserie is a must for those who don't live too far away. A Winter must in particular, their Dining Room looks gorgeous when decked out for Christmas: tree, decorations, their piano in the corner. From the centre of Manchester just jump on the Bury Metrolink line and get off at Whitefield.

Slattery's is perfect for a little brunch session or mid afternoon chat. I must point out that the lower floor is their fabulous chocolate shop which is great for gifts or treats for yourself. It also houses their stunning collection of wedding cakes; I won't be using this service for a while personally but if you're willing to spend on an individual cake they have an impressive display.

Back to the dining room. I get their 'Famous Swiss Hot Chocolate' every time with one (or two) of their accompaniments: fresh cream, the chocolate disc on top, strawberries dipped in chocolate, chocolate flake or marshmellows. And most of the time, that really is enough. Sometimes ordering a glass of water on the side helps your body cope with ALL that chocolate.

To start (treating the Hot Chocolate as dessert, you see), I've had their Jacket Potatoes, for instance, which are good: but that's not why people flock here.

The Slattery Chocolate Challenge is the stuff of legend round these parts. You pay £12.75 to attempt to eat 2 slices of fudge cake, 2 chocolate cups with fresh cream and ice cream, white chocolate sauce and a Hot Chocolate. If you can the prize a Slattery chocolate medal and a box of chocolates.

You can make a reservation on 0161 767 7761 and I really would recommend doing this as I've had to wait for a table almost every time I've visited. In fact, why don't I have this on speed dial yet?

Life is full of mysteries, the fact I haven't reviewed this place upto now is proof of that. I realized Saturday morning having picked up a sensational custom made cake for an equally superlative custom made sibling.

My first visit to Slattery was a few years ago when I met the proprietor who showed me around the Chocolate shop, the restaurent and the top floor premises where chocolate making classes take place. I was bowled over by the specialized nature of everything chocolate related. This is by far the best place to get your celebration cakes. There is a large variety and the handcrafted freshly baked goodness will have you coming back for more. The shop caters for the confectionary needs of all sweet toothed folk and the selection will have any establishment envious.

      Two words: Chocolate Heaven!
Great place to meet for brunch and indulge in something naughty. Everything made fresh on site (you can have a nosey past their creative area), plus lots of treats in the shop downstairs to take home :)
