Cinema De Lux is without doubt the swankiest cinema in Leicester. It recently opened (September 2008) as part of the new Highcross shopping centre development in Leicester. The thing that seperates this from all other cinemas can be summed up in one word: quality. The plasce oozes quality, from the seat designs, which tilt back unlike usual static cinema seats, to the premium viewing experience which you can get for paying a little more, leather seats and everything!
There are a number of well furnished bars and restraunt food is available, the prices aren't the cheapest you'll find, but the food is good quality and besides, buying dodgy popcorn at most cinemas isnt' cheap in any case! You can also take alcholic drinks with you into the screenings, unlike at the Odeon in Leicester which I appreciate greatly!
There are a number of screens as is common at any modern multiplex and as expected the picture and sound quality is top draw. They generally show the latest films and biggest blockbusters, if your looking for more arty and cult films, you would be better trying Phoenix Arts which is about a mile away. The staff were very friendly and helped me with any queries I had when I have visited, there is very little to complain about in truth! The only thing I could say on that is you pay a little more for your ticket on average than you would at a 'normal' multiplex, but it isn't a significant difference. If you haven't been to Cinema De Lux yet, I strongly suggest you pay a visit!
I thought I was walking into a theatre at first! This place is immensely superior to any other cinema and certainly worth the extra couple of quid.
It has a bar and a restaurant within it and that is surely enough to keep you busy before or after a film.
Staff here are very friendly and just add to to swish feel of this place. Its not fair, we need one of these in Birmingham
Easy parking which is a bonus in Leicester!
Film prices reasonable but food and drink prices are higher than expected, I was glad I always carry a bottle of water with me.
Very comfortable seats.
IGNORE THAT THIS IS IN THE CATEGORY "MUSIC VENUE"
Ooo, it's a change from the Odeon I'll tell thee! Very plush and expensive looking - it's totally inkeeping with the new commercial heart of the Highcross which beats pure 50p's round the top of the city centre as its life blood.
At the moment looking clean and shiney and new with staff who always manage to smile and answer any question like its not an imposition, the theatres are excellent with vast fields of leg room and nice plush tilty seats which are very exciting. There's also a restaurant which I haven't tried but looking at the menu is not prohibitively expensive. Indeed, given the option I'd go for dinner there and watch the film sated rather than throw my hard earned cash away on overpriced popcorn.
The Showcase de lux cinema is all you would expect from a luxury movie theatre, friendly and helpful staff, a great bar and luxurious large seats and for extra comfort, the directors lounge is dressed with leather love seats and loads of extra room to stretch you legs you can even take in you champagne from the bar into the screen to watch movie.
They have not cut corners anywhere It is like going to see a film as one of the stars at a movie premier. There are even restraints you can dine at inside the cinema so you can make a whole evening out of it with out having to find a near by and end up being late to see the film.
All this adds to the enjoyment of the night out and this is how the movies should have always been.
Large theaters, fantastic food choice and great service. Go on a Tues for a discount.
Compared to the other two cinemas in leicester: Odean and Vue, this is very high class and completely new to leicester. With elavators going up to the screens and down to back to the enterance, which i think is a great idea.
Its very busy. I am currently an insider of the cinema, which allows you to get exclusive previews to new films and other such offers.
The prices are good, pretty much like most cinemas. Also there is parking in the highcross carpark, which is not even a five minute walk away.
Also in the cinema is a bar, i guess for before and after a film, i think its a nice idea i havent had a drink from there but it seems quite fancy.
The screens are pretty much like normal cinemas until you sit down on the seats and have the opportunity to tilt back.
I personally like the cinema as i live in leicester and its new and different. But im sure others would also enjoy it too.
