This place is pretty much everything I love under one roof:
a) (affordable) vintage/retro/second hand clothing
b) healthy food and yummy cakes/sweets
c) booze and caffeine (cocktails, beer, wine, and coffee)
d) free internet
e) super cute, kitsch, and comfy decor
Can I also mention that when I visited Secondo, EVERYTHING was on sale for 5 quid???? I went buck wild. Three vintage skirts and a handbag later, this place made me a happy camper.
I picked up a flier for a vintage ball they have here on every Saturday. I'll be sure to attend as I leap at any chance to get fancy.
I'm in Love. Yep, Love with a captial L! This shop/café/bar is an example of what is so amazingly cool about London. Hidden under the train arches in Clapham, Secondo is a dream. It has east London charm with this hidden, secret south London location. A good selection of vintage clothes to thumb through, along with a caravan toilet, a huge selection of eye-poppingly awesome cakes, free wifi, coffee and a full bar... Really, it's like Narnia with all the magical greatness that they've managed to cram in here.
Joanna R speaks the truth when she describes this place as a hidden gem. I came here and just *had* to by a 1980s bat wing stone washed denim jacket. Yes, it was that good.
Don't doubt this place, go and try it, there is plenty of room to sit and while away the days. You wont be disappointed.
I will sound different to most of the reviews written on this store! I don't like it
there is nothing special about the clothes- not good quality vintage at all and it is very hard to rummage through the untidy piles and rails jammed with clothes
the cafe is not impressive !! when I went there I couldn't get a bottle of still
water and the cake was stale !!
I won't be going there again- based on all of the above and the hidden location !
It's proper lovely in here.
When the wi-fi was down and I had to get some work done, I came and set up camp in here! Free wifi, delicious cakes and comfy seats/sofas and tables. Win.
Very relaxed atmosphere - a place I'll return to for sure.
I'm not much into the retro gear myself, but it's a fun distraction when you pop in for a coffee. Who knows, you might scamp off with an aged coat that you didn't know you could do without!
Secondo is literally one of the nicest cafes I've ever been to. An oasis of calm in the sea of filth around Clapham North, it reminds me very much of a lot of chilled places you get in the greenfields at glasto. There's free wifi, great food, lovely fresh orange juice, and stacks of 2nd hand clothes to rummage through, if you're not too busy working. They even have a spare mac power adapter if you've forgotten yours.
Everything is just right here. I love it.
I have to say that Secondo has restored my faith in Clapham North and is now somewhere my girlfriend and me try to go each weekend for a little r&r.
The clothes are nice to have a look through but it is the food and ambiance we go for.
The staff are very welcoming and polite and will happily explian what they have on the menu, and what a fine menu it is too. Nothing pretentious, but just good home made pies, cakes, roasts and other treats.
last time we went there was an offer for a coffee and cake for £4. They don't charge extra for Soy Milk, and the cakes...well, these are portions the size my nan would have given. They certainly make the cakes sold at more 'chain' cafes look very sorry for themselves.
As said before there is free Wifi and you are never made to feel that once you have eaten you are just taking up space and they want you out.
Secondo is definitly at odds with Clapham high st. But it's one that needs to be discovered. the owners clearly enjoy what they do. Give a try to one of their quiche or home cooked pies. £4 and you'll get not just a slice but a succulent large plate with salad, avocado and other goodies that makes you think you've just landed on the unknown gem of this part of Clapham North.
Secondo is such a hidden gem! Before you get put off by location, let me just tell you- it's worth traveling from north London (even though I didn't have to travel from north London, it's still worth it...). Heck, it's worth traveling from north America!
I happened upon this AMAZING vintage clothes shop/cafe at around 11pm last Friday night. I was out for an evening stroll and noticed light coming from this archway shop under a bridge. It just so happens they'd 'closed' hours earlier but the owner and friends were still inside having some wine and invited me in anyway! They were SO cool and friendly and even invited me back for breakfast the next morning on the house!
Aside from the staff being obviously incredible, the merchandise is easily some of the best quality and best priced vintage clothing I have seen in London. I seriously wanted to buy everything and the good news is, because the prices are so great you almost can! And when you need a break from all the shopping excitement, you can sit down for a cup of coffee or a light meal.
One of the most fun features- the changing rooms are within converted caravan (winebago in American-speak) INSIDE the shop!!! Just so cool. Highly highly recommended.
Also good to note- the owner mentioned they have two other shops in Brixton.
