The only place you should buy your cards in Hammersmith.
From the cute and artsy to the down right crude, this conveniently placed shop has saved me many a time when I've forgotten a birthday or anniversary.
Packed with quirky gifts, Scribbler is a saviour for any forgotten occasion.
A Mecca for stationery, cards, dairies, calendars, paper, wrapping paper, you get the picture. I do like the cards in here though, and this is the main reason I keep coming back. They're the antithesis of Hallmark with cute, kitsch and witty designs that will have the recipient laughing or crying. I'm particularly fond of the 'men in pants' cards.
Besides having a good old laugh, you can also pick up some useful items like sticky notes and journals as well as piggy banks for that rainy day..
I have a bit of a problem when I go into greeting card stores. I usually go in for a 'quick' visit to buy a card, and end up getting addicted to reading all the cards: it's like roulette, hoping the next one will be better than the last, and eventually you will hit the jackpot: that is, the ultimate card.
And Scribbler is the best place in London I have found to play this game. The selection of cards are so hysterically fabulous, I end up spending so much time reading the cards and being both shocked and amused by the slogans on them. At Scribbler, they really do push the envelope. Pun intended.
If you're a fan of the slightly more quirky greetings card then Scribbler is the shop to which you must go for all greetings card based occasions.
They have quite the selection of humorous offerings and some really beautifully designed craft-sy ones.
Gift-wrapping is also a speciality, again with some gorgeous, sumptuous designs and hilarious (?) choices such as sheets printed with the words 'GAY WRAPPING PAPER'.
Novelty gifts make up the rest of the stock.
Don't expect to come out of here with anything cheap though. Novelty in this case does not translate as cheap. Some of the cards go for as much as 3 or 4 quid.
I like quirky cards and get creeped out by old granny style traditional cards so it was great to go to a shop that just had quirky cards and an assistant who was dancing to the disco classic playing in the background.
minor annoyance they don't take credit/debit cards for transactions under five pounds, which is a bit weird considering most of what they sell falls into that category
It's a fun business that gives you a variety when choosing a card for any occasion with humour and creativity. They have stuff like their 'fun cards', which I can't write in here exactly what they say (use of big words, even the 'f' word), but I can tell you they make you smile and that is always nice. This range uses images from the 1960's advertisement world an changes their meaning with the phrases Scribbler adds to them (£2-£3). For example, a woman in a wedding dress that says 'I'm saving myself for my second marriage'. Their cards even take into humuor all the environmental green craze, 'Go Green! F... a Vegetarian!' And for those gifts you can find some really innovative gift wrapping paper, but to this I say what's the point when it gets thrown away anyway.
A brilliant card store with a great range of fun cards, I just loved their selections! It's worth going in just to have a laugh at some of the cards I've bought some to frame them!
Scribbler may be a little bit more expensive than the usual card shops, but it is worth it! They sell really quirky, funny and cheeky cards, and cute little gifts as well. This place is way more popular than the Cards Galore opposite it, and for good reason. There are no sloshy, sloppy cards, just funny, modern and cool cards that are guaranteed to make you smile. I love the energetic and slightly quirky vibe about this shop, and the staff are really smiley.
The humour-loving team at Scribbler sells some of the most risqué greeting cards in the UK.
