Salcey is a great place to visit if you have young kids but also if you just fancy a walk or a cycle around. I ride over there quite often then do a few laps before coming home for lunch and its just really nice to have some peace and quiet somewhere. The treetop walk is also good fun if you've never been up it before.

I hadn't been to Salcey Forest since childhood but I went this summer to see the famous tree-top walk. It didn't disappoint and is definitely the best thing about Salcey Forest. It's an amazing feeling looking down at the tree-tops like a bird, and an experience I won't forget. Kids and adults alike will be fascinated by it but there is a bit of climbing to do and it is of course very high, so if you aren't very mobile or suffer from vertigo, I would give it a miss. The forest itself is huge and there are plenty of walking and cycling trails. There are also opportunities to learn about the work that is done in the forest and about the wildlife there. The cafe is nice and parking is convenient.

I have to add how very impressed we were with the 'tree top' walk.
This is a very substantially wood-built pathway which climbs at an easy gradient through the forest until it reaches a platform at the top where you're above the tops of the trees.
The path is easily 3-4 abreast, so it's a good size - we took our dog with us.
When we reached the summit, a bi-plane was flying past & we felt as though we were as high as it.
The cafe in the car park is reasonable, & is adjacent to the kids play area.
Altogether an enjoyable day out, but I had to add to the previous review with more detail on the tree top walk.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Qype User (droide…)Northampton7412912 Oct 2008
The Royal Forest of Salcey is a magnificent ancient woodland offering excellent walking and oportunities to view an amazing range of wildlife. The forest is a remnant of the medieval royal hunting forest. Reminders of the past can still be found, with many miles of ancient woodbanks, building remains and ancient trees. The 'druids' or veteran oaks in Salcey are rare and amazing wildlife habitats, and some of the old oaks are believed to be over 500 years old
Lovely range of walks for all abilities, short & long including a brilliant tree-top walk which the children will love. Cycle & Horse trails are also available & at least three different carparks to use.
Something for everyone. A refreshments cafe is at main carpark.
We went today and took the children. was great fun walking the treetop walk and pretending with my son we were giants as tall as trees :o)
And it was lovely to get out into nature!
The toilets were disgusting to be honest but all in all it was a lovely day out!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
