Lovely new airport, uncluttered and modern, clean and not too busy. There are a number of destinations and even though the current financial climate isn't doing much good to the airline industry, Robin Hood is still doing well.
There's been some bad press about them losing a million a day and the likes, but that was all planned for in the initial business plan - you can't just open a business like this and expect to make a profit. The press have got it all a bit confused as usual!
Car parking is the worst thing here - it's far too expensive. If they were to reduce the cost they'd probably see a lot more people just popping in for a visit and therefore spending money in the terminal.
Lovely and quiet. If not too quiet! It's all a bit too disturbing! I worry if anyone actually flys there so they don't shut it down next year lol
Anyways I've never been in such a modern, but yet quiet and relaxed airport! It's great to know there's an airport next door!
If they delete Sheffield from the name i'll give it 5 stars :P
Nice quiet little out-of-the-way airport, easily accessible by car or bus, with a very good hotel on site.
We passed through very quickly in both directions, no major delays in security, definitely one of the best airports I've been through.
This is a really good asset for the town. It's all brand new and still clean and shiny, and they're still developing the place several years in.
They've got flights with Thomson, Wizzair, Ryanair and FlyBe at the moment, but there are always rumours flying around locally as to new routes and airlines coming and going.
The worst aspect is the fact that to get to it from the M18 you've got to go all the way into Doncaster and back out again, which can add up to an hour to your journey at peak times, even though the airport is just a couple of miles from the motorway. They really need to get this sorted as there are plenty of places they could add a slip road with minimal disruption.
Car parking is also pricey but I suppose that's the same at most airports. Shame they don't allow a couple of hours free though, as you could then have a visit to the terminal just for coffee etc. But on the whole it's a nice place to go to, and a great one to fly from.
I would never travel from any other airport,i must admit the main reason for me is that it is so local, but that aside ,its a nice small airport that doesnt take to long to check in ,I usually hate airports they always seem such clostaphobic, busy and intimidating places, were as this airport is a lot more relaxed everything from first walking in to stepping on the plane, and on the way back collecting your bagage is so smooth running, and stress free.It still has your usual perks such as duty free and money exchange, but it takes so much stress out of traveling
The airport itself is very nice, clean and modern but my biggest issue with this airport is it's location. Doncaster/Robin Hood / Doncaster-Sheffield airport is located at a former RAF base near Doncaster. The modern facilities are excellent and as the airport hasn't reached anywhere near it's capacity yet it is usually fairly quiet. The airport is currently not very accessible by car or public transport. From the south the nearest motorway is the M18 but it is a good 20-30 mins to the airport through Doncaster depending on traffic. Don't believe the Sheffield bit of the name either as the airport is the opposite side of Doncaster to Sheffield and is about 45-50 mins to Sheffield city centre. It is a great airport but it's a pity the location isn't better.
Robin Hood airport is located a few miles from doncaster city centre, with flights across europe from Ryanair, Thomsonfly, and Charter flights to holiday desternations in the med. Robin Hood airport is the youngest airport in the uk, only being open for a short period of time, it has taken off better than some other small airports, and has lots of transport links to local towns and cities by bus. The East Coast mainline is connected to the airport by bus, offering services up and down the country. Ive yet to fly from the airport, but have visited, and its a great little airport if you want to fly from a stress free UK airport.
good access, good parking, friendly and fast service !!
