One review for Prince Of Wales
All Reviews
The food and wine in the restaurant are a cut above most pubs, but the bar is usually over-crowded with rowdy drunks. So depending on what I'm reviewing, my rating would be quite different. The four stars I've given the pub reflect only the restaurant experience, but I have also briefly described the bar experience below.
Last time I was at the Prince of Wales, I had a vegetarian pappardelle that was to die for. The sauce was delicious and the pasta was cooked to perfection. My b/f had a steak that was tender and perfectly cooked.
The wines are reasonably priced and well chosen to match the food. The waiters and waitresses are friendly and happy to recommend their favourite dishes and wines. They really know their menu--maybe because some of them live upstairs and as a result source all their food and drink from the pub.
The décor in the restaurant is quite unique. With taxidermy, skulls, antlers, chandeliers, solid wood tables and a view into the kitchen, you'll feel strangely at home.
I would definitely go back for a meal, especially since it's so close to home. But I'm not sure I would go there for just a drink. The space is cramped and full of really annoyingly loud drunks. It's not that I'm an old kill-joy or that I don't know how to have fun, I just happen to think that being fall on the floor drunk at 6pm in the evening is a bit OTT.
