This is my local cab company of choice. It was previously known as Defoe Cars, and now seems to go by both names. I don't know what the deal is with that, but they work just as well as before and turn up pretty quickly when asked. Prices are comparable with other cab companies in the area.
The cars are pretty clean and the drivers usually friendly. I've only once been driven too fast and flashy; once been subjected to a philosophical monologue on the relative merits of Islam and Christianity; and once had to listen to opera (which was actually very pleasant).
The cab office is on Stoke Newington Church Street on the corner of Defoe Road, if you just want to drop in and wait for a cab, but they seem to be just as quick to collect.
I would recommend going elsewhere for a taxi. I've used this company a few times now to get home after a night out, we go into the office to book and wait for a taxi. They've been quick in getting a taxi for us, within 5mins. Though having told us it's a fixed price the driver generally overcharges, saying he doesn't have any change, or just short changing.
It's a bit of a lucky dip as to whether you get a relatively clean car, the last one smelt like he'd been chain smoking in the car for the previous hour. And the drivers haven't tended to be the most careful, having had some near misses with cyclists.

I am always a bit confused by Premier Cars' fare system. It seems no matter where I want to go in London, it always costs me the same amount of money- 12 pounds. In the summer, I paid the same fare to go to Walthamstow dog track as I did to go just down the road to Shoreditch Church. Not that I am complaining- there are always drivers hanging around the taxi rank and I have never been kept waiting for more than ten minutes for a ride. They are a very handy company to know about considering the irregular times of the 73 and 243 buses on Stoke Newington Church Street, which always seem to keep me waiting for over half an hour.
A warning to all- don't be panicked by the clock outside the office- you are not as late as you think.
This is the most reasonable and reliable minicab service to be found anywhere in North London. They charged some friends a mere 16 pounds at 4am to go from Stoke Newington to Gloucester Road. I've often called them for a pickup late at night at times, and the fare has been around ten pounds each time. They always have drivers on standby, are quick and efficient, and quote a fixed price for each journey. An airport drop to Heathrow is 36 pounds, and a pickup is 42 pounds with extra for parking.
I've only had one negative experience, where a cab driver attempted to charge five pounds extra for a less than five minute wait. However this was the one driver attempting to get a tip, not a reflection on the fare charged or the overall service offered by the company. Its open twenty four hours, which makes this a handy number to keep in case you get stranded in the cold after the last tube, waiting for a bus on every hour.
It does make one feel terribly Sex and the City to dial a cab and hear the magic words "84 Lordship Road, where are you going?" That's right, they memorize your phone number in their special system so that when you call you don't have to give them your postcode or address. Maybe slightly creepy, but I find it terribly useful when I am in a rush or too drunk to remember this information myself.
The fares are very reasonable, I have never been kept waiting longer than 10 minutes and on the whole the drivers are professional and friendly not pervy or desperate for inane chit chat. They quote fixed prices at the start of the journey like most of the companies in the area, but unlike the others I have never had a driver try to bump up the price or pretend to be out of change.
Horrible Customer Service. Car was not large enough to fit the luggage even though I explained the amount of luggage I had prior to booking the service. The driver told me to wait at the airport and never came back. After standing there for over an hr I had to find my own transportation. Call customer service and was told I was unprofessional for not waiting (even though I waited over an hr). He then began to swear and yell at me over the phone after I explained my frustration with the company.The prices vary and are never set. BEWARE.
Really nice woman who has picked me up twice, super reliable and remember their customers, only used them a couple of times so can't award a 5, so 4 will do for now.
What is up with the cab firms in Stoke Newington? We used to always swear by Sam's. Then they where knocked off the pedestal by GS just next door. Then they inherited Sam's crazy driving and we migrated to Premier. But seems they are all on crack. Ok, maybe not fair. We had one bad experience with Premier this weekend and its left a bad taste in the mouth they tend to be good, efficient and reliable. So story goes; five of us pile into the people carrier early on Saturday evening having spent the day painting our new studio. Tired and hungry we realised our pockets were empty and requested a cash point stop which tends to come with a £2 charge. 3 of the 5 piled out leaving the rest to chatter hotair in the back. Within a matter of moments the driver was sparking with anger at the time it was taking and welcomed the cashpointers back with a battery of abuse, speeding off, and near winging an oncoming car. Reasonable request was made for him to calm down and slow down which riled him even further. Result was we were turfed out on the curb to watch as he sped away to a fanfair of car horns. So driver 234, thanks. Straight on the blower we were to Premier who seem to be taking our complaint seriously. This will be their saving grace.
Used them for a transfer from Heathrow to Paddington and they were great. I was moving and had a bunch of luggage so couldn't take the train even though my new apartment is only a block from Paddington Station. Because I had so much luggage as well as needing to get to work after dropping my stuff off, I needed someone reliable. I was worried there weren't a lot of reviews online for good, cheap Heathrow transfers. Went with these guys because of Yelp and they didn't let me down. When I booked, I was reluctant to pay first because I was what would happen if no one showed up and they had no problems with me paying once I got in the cab. When I arrived, the driver was at the exit with a sign with my name on it waiting for me. Very professional and helped take care of all the big heavy luggage I had. Once in the cab, we called the dispatch, I gave them my credit card number and it was all done. No fuss, no extra charges, no tips asked for. Just nice smooth ride in a relatively new, clean car. Driver's name is Tan and I'll put in a good word for him since he did so well. A normal car is only £38. I had to take an estate car (station wagon) because I had so much luggage but even that is only £48. Unless you're traveling by yourself and are going within walking distance from Paddington Station, book Premier. 2 people on Heathrow Express is already £36 but the car will drop you off at your doorstep. Only thing is if there is bad traffic but at least there isn't a meter that keeps popping if you're stuck.
I was a regular customer for years until a year ago when they failed to pick me up on time and as a result I missed my flight. The whole time i was on the phone with their dispatcher, he kept telling me they were close by and mentioning a street they were on. But 30 mins later the driver showed up and he told me during the journey that the dispatcher was lying and he was miles away. He didn't get the call to pick me up until i called to ask where my car was and he was dispatched immediately when he was supposed to end his shift. Because I missed my flight, I called them at the airport to complain and they said they would refund me. For weeks after my trip, i called to claim my refund but they kept giving me the run around and telling me the owner or manager was unavailable. After a few weeks, I just gave up and decided to claim my 68 GBP a loss. They were reliable for years until that time. I would've been able to forgive them for one mess-up but because they failed to rectify the situation with a refund, I've chosen to no longer be their customer. If you want reliable service with decency and integrity then go with another company.
