Perfect little Hotel, right on the Sea front, with a friendly and helpful owner. We picked the Pier Hotel because of the good reviews on TripAdvisor, everyone praised the breakfast, and after a seamless check in, I admit I went to bed looking forward to breakfast. Free Wifi, comfy rooms and a decent shower. Bathroom was a little on the cramped side, but can't fault anything.
Breakfast was definitely worth it, we were offered tea and coffee as soon as we arrived, I then tucked into a massive pile of fresh fruit, and then enjoyed a large fry up. I don't eat eggs or mushrooms so I was given extra bacon and sausages, can't argue with that!
There's an interesting looking bar downstairs with a few TV's to relax with, had we not been so tired we probably would have enjoyed a nightcap down there.
The owner is kind enough to hold onto bags once checked out, which was ideal as our train wasn't until 2pm so we explored Rhyl for a while after checking out.
Happy to recommend.
The Pier Hotel used to be just like pretty much every other hotel in Rhyl, a slightly shabby and run down building hoping to bring in some of the handful of tourists who want a holiday in Rhyl but don't want to stay in a caravan. Since being taken over several years back however the place has been transformed into easily the nicest hotel in the town (admittedly this isn't saying much) and clearly much effort, and money, has been invested in the business.
One thing that is noticeable is that they are no longer targeting holidaymakers looking for cheap digs. The hotel doesn't allow children or pets and offers special rates for business people so clearly they're looking to tap into the corporate market. I remember reading at one time that they had a deal to provide accommodation for the local theatre and their website has a picture gallery showing some of the 'famous' faces that have stayed there. It's fair to say that these are all very much z-listers but if you fancy sharing breakfast with someone whose face you vaguely recognise but can't quite place this may the place for you.
Location wise it's ideal. The beach is just over the road, the town centre a two minute walk away and the theatre and Sun Centre not much further away in the other direction. The only drawback is the lack of on-site parking which means you may have to search out an on-street parking space and feed a meter if you're travelling by car. However I think this is the same for all the other town centre hotels.
All in all if you want a cheap holiday this isn't the place for you but if you're looking for decent quality service and accommodation you'll do well to find anywhere better in the area.
