This very brightly painted deli does not purport to serve up the best food you've ever eaten, but it's a friendly place with a large enough menu and decent prices and portions.

Staff are mostly eastern european with imperfect english but they are hardworking, fast and try very hard.

Between the rushes of breakfast and lunch (when a roaring trade is done in take-aways) the staff are all too happy to let you linger over a drink and read the newspaper. The students from the nearby Italia Conti know this joint so during term time you may be joined by them - which makes for interesting eaves dropping opportunities.

Conveniently situated for me opposite Golden Lane on Goswell Road, it is the place I often go to for breakfast or lunch when I am working at the training venue on Baltic Street West. This week I had smoked salmon and scrambled egg on brown toast with a large latte, which was lovely! On the second day however, I chose Cumberland sausage with grilled mushrooms. The mushrooms came sliced and oily, so might as well have been fried, and the sausage.well! Anyone who knows what a Cumberland sausage looks like would have INSTANTLY known that this was not it. Without an explanation, they appeared. I was too hungry to complain so I left it until afterwards and had a word. The gentleman explained that the wrong box had been delivered Hmmmm. maybe you should have told me? :-(

They do huge pasta salads, a wide variety of ciabatta and foccacia buns as well as the usual, and their smoothies are very fresh! They do roasted aubergines and peppers, lasagne and tons of other things. All the staff seem to be eastern european which makes the discussions interesting, and they are very efficient and prompt.
