Dublin MUST DO. I've visited this city four times now, and only just found Phoenix Park, which is a real pity because it's lovely and Europe's largest urban park! Biking is definitely the way to see it though! There are so many different sorts of trails (side of the road, paved, dirt) through wooded areas, fields, past monuments, and to lookout points. The lads there are honest and friendly, and know a few good jokes as well. I was quickly outfitted with a bike, he adjusted the seat for me and had me try it out, fitted the bike with a saddlebag and helped me find the best route with the free map. Bike helmets are free, if you want one. I had a voucher, all day for ten euro, but because I came late in the day, he gave it to me for 8. Pack a lunch and some water, give yourself a few hours, and get lost! :)
The Phoenix Park bike hire rents all kinds of bikes from tandem bikes, bikes with toddler attachments, kid bikes and of course standard everyday bikes. I have rented from here a few times and found them friendly and accommodating each time. Some of their bikes are nicer than others and while I have most of the time ended up with a pretty nice and comfortable bike, I did have one once that wasn't so great. I am sure I could have exchanged it for another though. They seem friendly enough. The price is 5 Euro per hour, which for an hour is not bad. If you want to take a spin around the entire park and make a half day of it, that could get pricey.
I do have my own bike, but find it is much easier to take the Luas to Heuston station and walk to the park rather than cycle from my apartment near Merrion Square. I am not 100% comfortable cycling on the open road quite yet. I imagine this place would be great for a tourist with a week in Dublin or so who wanted to completely see one of Europes largest parks.
Myself, my husband and 2 kids, hired 2 bikes for 1 hr in the park today, with 2 child seats and helmets for just 10 euro! It was by far the best 10 euro i have ever spent. We forgot to book but the guy accommodated us anyway, and he was so friendly and helpful. He fastened the kids in before we left and told us not to worry if we wanted to keep the bikes longer we could fix him up when we rerurned. I have to say the service we received was brilliant, and they were very busy but attended to everyone in a very friendly manner. I would highly recommend hiring a bike in the park.I think the next price is 10 euro for 3 hrs but they seem very flexible. It's great to support these small, clever buisnesses , especially when they are so good...
Excellent bicycle rental place located at the main entrance to the Phoenix park off Conyngham Road. I havn't actually used them as I have my own bike, that I use in the park, but I have seen the great choice of bikes available, including tandems and family friendly bikes. It's lovely to be able to drive or bus it to the park, and have the option to cycle around and visit all the different attractions in The Phoenix Park. There are also plenty of cycling lanes to avail of. A new frequent user rewards card is going to be made available soon.
Excellent Bikes, Great Service fast communication via email and sms.
We rented two bikes for 9 days going to the Southwest of Ireland. Paul provided us with all necessary equipment (spare tubes, tools, pump and waterproof panniers). We could even leave our suitcases at his Place.
