I was really impressed by Pepenero, it may be on the dullest road in London but the welcome was warm, the service good and the food tasty with big portions.
They really take hospitality seriously here, the owner came and chatted to us after our meal and when we went back on a different day they remembered that we had been there before and greeted us like old friends.
Most impressive was the food though, a total surprise and right up there with the best Italian food I have tasted in London and in my travels in Italy. The flavours are good and the servings are big - you won't go hungry here! The pizzas are awesome - I've never had a better Napoli, a pizza that sorts out the good from the also rans! Pasta was also excellent, cooked to perfection - the chef's linguine was great.
The wine was fine and the Peroni......well Peroni really.
I've been back four times since my first visit and I intend to go regularly, whenever the need for an Italian meal arises - see you there perhaps?
less said the better
I've eaten here quite a few times since the first and I have learned that besides their pizza, everything else is fantastic. Appetizers, pasta, steak, dessert (tiramisu is very yum). The service is mediocre (depends on their mood) but since we normally get take-out or delivery, it's not a huge problem.
I have just a great meal at Pepenero. It was pretty quiet when we went in at 6ish but we were welcomed warmly and it was nice and comfortable inside. By the time we left it was full with a queue at the front door! We had a lovely starter and the pizzas were great. A mistake was made with my order but the staff were very apologetic and made amends immediately in a very friendly way. We definitely want to go back again some time soon and the only disappointment was not finding it earlier.
We were staying at the Crowne Plaza Docklands and luckily found Pepenero, as we don't like eating in hotel restaurants.....what a GREAT place! The menu is great and reasonably priced....I had the sea bass, sole, and filet mignon on separate visits and all 3 were excellent! The staff (waiters, chef and owner) were all very personable also.
If you are at the Excel or Crown Plaza area, this is definitely worth the walk!!!
After waiting for an hour to be served, the starter arrived accompanied with a lemon covered in blue mould. Not wishing to risk eating seafood after such an experience, we cancelled our orders and left to get takeaway from the high street. Our Valentine's day was a disaster as a result. It's a shame as I've recently moved into the Sphere and looked forward to eating here regularly but I won't be back after this experience.
